I could not agree more. I understand the original intent, but nowadays it’s literally a “get out of fucking over your civil rights - free card”.

I agree with the sentiment, but in going to “uhm acksually” you on the size of the nuclear stockpile. Russia still holds more nukes officially: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_states_with_nuclear_weapons
Glad they are calling out Danielle’s blatant misuse of the notwithstanding clause, and I fully support a general strike. It’s high time someone told the UCP to stop treading on Albertans’ rights and freedoms without consequence.

I think we can summarize a good 50-70% of all news coming out of Alberta as “Alberta considers continuing to be an instigator and fomenter of seditionist and extremist political views regarding the unity of our country.” sigh

You could get people to vote for a literal rock in AB, as long as it’s painted blue.
Oh look, the clowns confirmed they’d like a clown to lead them.
Seriously though, given the rabid weirdos the party consists of these days it’s democracy manifest that they opted to keep him on as leader - he represents his party very well. As for whether the party should include such culture war hardliners and other pundits is an altogether different question.

For some reason this made me feel much older than knowing GTA V launched 11 years ago. I grew up with an NES.

I couldn’t agree more with the author. While I support the existence of organizations that want to help women make an informed choice about abortion, the intentional misrepresentation of some of these anti-abortion organizations has always felt really sleazy to me. If you can’t engage in an honest conversation with someone to arrive at the most optimal healthcare outcome for them due to a preconceived stance on whether abortion should be legal or not, then you shouldn’t be allowed to call yourself a healthcare provider. And we FOR SURE shouldn’t be elevating their platforms by having public healthcare work with these organizations.

As someone who was unemployed until recently, all I can say to this is: Fuck Trump and those bullshit tariffs he unilaterally imposed. I was laid off the day they first came into effect, and their impact made finding a job in what used to be a very active sector of the economy a nearly six month ordeal.
I don’t blame companies for adjusting to economic adversity and changing regulatory landscapes, nor do I personally blame Carney or the Liberals for not rolling out stimulus packages in that constantly changing and shifting landscape. I’m happy they are doing this now of course, but let’s not forget that the sole culprit of this nonsense is that bloated orange wannabe dictator in Washington.

Obligatory “Beaverton is supposed to be satire”.
Man, this is just the truth. Alberta conservatives actively seek to make things worse for everyone.

Alberta being Alberta I guess. You can always bet on then taking the most infuriating, backwards, and if possible racist decision possible for any situation.
I know not everyone in that province hates being reasonable but man oh man do they have a bunch of backwards assholes propping up the ever radicalising conservative party.

That would be far to accurate for the GOP base to understand. In fact, Trump himself doesn’t seem to understand this either.

This was, and continues to be, never about fentanyl.
Trump wants to feel like a powerful leader so instead of taking on actual substantial threats to the US economy he bullies his smaller allies, like the weakling he is.
We can’t transition trade away from that failed state south of us quickly enough. And, as with many of Trump’s shortsighted “bull in a China shop” decisions, this will only serve to motivate us to do so quicker while also detrimentally affecting the US’ own long-term trade prospects.

And here we see why bending the knee to a sociopath like Trump never works. They will only experience validation for their previous bullying, and keep escalating regardless of whether they “won” or not.
I sincerely hope Carney tells Trump to stuff it and come back once he figured out trade agreements are relationships - they are supposed to provide mutual benefit to the parties involved.
Or, even more basically - tell him to first figure out what he really wants to achieve before making demands, because even that seems a cognitively impossible ask of the current US administration (see: https://www.reuters.com/business/japan-voice-concern-over-us-trade-deal-inconsistency-pm-ishiba-says-2025-04-21/).

Having lived in both Squamish and Whistler while commuting to Vancouver on the regular: Yes please. Finally someone advocating for a common sense solution.

Just like Trump is a poor man’s version of a rich person, Peterson’s a dumb man’s version of an intellectual.

Good riddance. Sadly the internet knows no boundaries, but it’s a start at least.

Man, that recollection by those survivors is some high octane nightmare fuel. I really hope more people made it out unscathed.

How can anyone look at the complete and utter shitshow down south and think “yeah, I wanna be part of that”? The US is in declime by just about any accepted metric, assuming you can ignore all the blatant human rights abuses being conducted out in public long enough to even look at metrics right now.
There should be no reasonable argument for a Canadian to want to get annexed other than sheer, unadulterated, racism, transphobia, or fascism.
And if you support any of those things, I think you’re the one who should get annexed personally by being relocated to the down south trash heap.
I am sadly reminded of Kenny’s remarks right before he was deposed and the true crazies took hold of the UCP in Alberta. I sure hope the BC conservatives don’t have another Danielle in their wings, waiting to usurp leadership and send the whole province into a descent to madness.
