Perhaps Tengu is left so that it can be part of an extension when everything else is properly set

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Ideon: I'm building a self-hosted project cockpit on an infinite canvas (v0.5 update)English
2·6 months agoAs OP said, stars correlated with their own posting on Lemmy. So your affirmation is not absolutely true. It’s all relative… same applies to posting on reddit vs. lemmy… There’s a dilemma between popularity vs. a smaller niche population with ethical concerns.
In a similar vein, PRs might be more in quantity but less in quality when comparing any foss project on github vs codeberg…

2·6 months agoYes it is. You will only lose github issues. You need to set repo there as mirror without issues and that’s it, done

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•I Spent a Year Replacing My Subscriptions by Self Hosting. Here’s How.English
1·6 months agoWireguard allows you to tunnel properly. For example, if you have a low cost vps, self-host Pangolin and voilà. Tho idk about android apps, surely there’s some wireguard clients that work perfectly fine with Pangolin

2·7 months agoI don’t like those projects either. Scuttlebut and cjdns looked more “profesional” to my ignorant eyes. I bring these up because I’d like to hear your comments. I will check 10fingers now…

Canada@lemmy.ca•An almost inexhaustible reserve of lithium discovered in Canada
1·8 months agoI hope this doesn’t ruin peoples lifes. And if it affects anyone in Canada, I hope their revisit those laws on environmental pollution. There’s a reason why all the mining companies are in that country. Ecocide in third world countries is driven by that “blind spot” in their laws and I’m certain the majority of canadians don’t have the least idea of their complicity.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•PSA syncthing-fork has changed ownersEnglish
4·9 months agoFor some reason, my version of syncthing-fork is old and source is not even on f-droid anymore. Was there any other before catfriend1? Perhaps I downloaded APK from GitHub… Can’t recall.

1·10 months agoTime to migrate? SeaweedFS, RustFS, or Garage https://garagehq.deuxfleurs.fr/ cover the basics and some nice features too AFAIK.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•I've written a series of blog posts about a "hands-off" self-hosting setup intended for relative beginners.English
22·1 year agoTry Pangolin instead of cloudfare, though it requires a VPS (e.g. oracle free tier, or pay €1/month to ionos)
Only the failed attempts could be a Denial Of Service and throw you out. So, at least add an ever increasing delay to those. Fail2ban is important.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Is there any open source tv focused os/ui?English
1·1 year agoThis is entirely different approach, sorry. Fwiw, I bought a wireless (2.4Ghz) keyboard that has a trackpad, and just use a zoomed-in KDE Plasma. Far from the eye candy of a kiosk, but with some customization you may achieve satisfaction (:

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•I'm guilty of not reading the f..ing documentationEnglish
1·1 year agoI do read the docs. Even before trying software, to judge if ot will fulfill my requirements… Rocky Linux is one such example. Great docs, I’d love to try their distro one day :)
Indeed, a great way to make your “unreadable” bullet point list into a “normie” palatable wall of text.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Non-Americans who have been to the US.. What is the weirdest thing about America that Americans don't realize is weird?
2·2 years agoSorry to be honest, but this is my view…
Voting between two parties, and then getting whatever the “electors” pick. All the while, thinking they live under the biggest democracy of the world.
Having all sorts of inhuman behaviors, like robbing childs from immigrants.
Child marriage.
Having lots of weapons in the country but all wars outside.
Mmm… What else? Ah, prisoners are slaves.
Syncthing. Look no further, just check the “untrusted device” so that you don’t give unencrypted data to your friend’s disk.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Easy metrics dashboard for multiple systems?English
0·2 years agoCockpit is a dashboard (and control!) app that can connect to multiple hosts.

I wouldn’t trust an old battery, nope
(I rather use free tiers of paas providers or rent a vps that anyway is as cheap as electricity. The issue there is going to be storage, then you need a homelab or nas and setup tunnels for apps like nextcloud. That’s what I am doing.)
