Dunbar Earthquake and Emergency Planning (DEEP), the Pacific Spirit MedVents (Medical Venturers) and Vancouver Emergency Community Telecommunications Organization (VECTOR) invite you to an introductory emergency radio training session on Saturday, October 18th from 10:30 a.m. until noon.
This free training session at the Disaster Support Hub will introduce you to DEEP’s radio operations and give you some basic skills in how to use mobile radios to help out our community at a time of urgent need.
The Hub, located at the basketball court behind the Dunbar Community Centre, is where community members can gather to exchange information and coordinate their efforts to help each other during a disaster.
When a major disaster such as an earthquake occurs, our usual communication modes – cell phones, the internet – may be out of commission for a sustained period. DEEP’s radio operations at the Disaster Support Hub will be critical to the Dunbar community’s ability to obtain and pass on important information to and from regional disaster response authorities. The Hub’s mobile radios will also help community volunteers to coordinate neighbourhood relief efforts including damage assessment, fire watch, and local search and rescue.
