When officers entered the school on Tuesday afternoon, they found six victims deceased, RCMP confirmed.
An individual believed to be the shooter was also found deceased with what appears to be a self‑inflicted injury.
Two victims have been airlifted to the hospital with serious or life‑threatening injuries. A third victim died while being transported to hospital. Approximately 25 others are being assessed and triaged at the local medical centre for non‑life‑threatening injuries.
The active shooter alert was lifted at 5:46 p.m. PT.
This was a mental health crisis brought on by transphobia based on my reading.
Last trans shooter was a trans man and his shooting was brought on because he was a victim of sexual abuse and a cover up in a catholic school.
Only about 5 trans shooters since we started tracking, >90% men, <9% women, <1% trans.
Violence is the language spoken by the unheard. I do not excuse the shooters, but understand they are victims of their own material conditions.
We need to do better.
I agree. Violence is a societal issue, not an identity one.
The sooner we realise this, the better. Regardless of who you are, what your background is, what extreme things you are exposed to – you do not go out and kill a bunch of innocent people unless there is something significantly wrong with your mental state.
