When the games came out, I remember the old 4 screen multiplayer Mario Kart 64 days. Then soon after Goldeneye 007, which blew my mind.

I had a VHS tape that showed a trailer of Mario 64 lol it was amazing. I don’t even remember how I got it.

I’ve got one that showed Donkey Kong Country for the SNES. I think they sent them out if you had a Nintendo Power subscription.

If you subscribed to Nintendo Power they sent it for free. You could also request it.

I remember getting Donkey Kong Country, Mario 64, Star Fox 64, and Diddy Kong Racing.

If we speak about next gen, Super Mario 64 was a real next generation. It was a magical moment. Today kids don’t have this kind of magic anymore.

My first memory of the N64 was seeing it in a Blockbuster not long after it came out. The kid playing was doing the first slide in Mario 64 over and over. Later I saw it at a Toys R Us and the person was in Dire Dire Docks. I remember the tint was off and the water looked green. Both of those locations are long gone now, of course. 👴

I bought one the day it came out in the UK. Back in those days they didn’t get released in all countries at the same time, there was nearly a year between Japan and the UK. I used to go through the backs of magazines staring at the adverts trying to find someone who would sell an import for a remotely reasonable price but they were inflated by like 2.5x.

I still remember seeing it as a young child at the E3, which is a wild memory now because (1) they stopped allowing children and (2) they no longer exist.

The demo included Bom-omb Battlefield and it was the first time I had seen 3D. Sure PlayStation and Saturn (and I think Jaguar?) were there too, but Mario 64 was definitely the most impressive.

Just started playing jet force Gemini the other day. I wasn’t crazy as a kid, the targeting system is indeed awful.

We got to rent time on one of these that very summer in an arcade-like coffee shop (or something, I was young, I don’t remember) in NYC. Everything was in Japanese, but Mario was running around in an open world and it blew our minds.

Perfect Dark multiplayerwas sort if the precursor to a lot of online shooters. It was also the only one with bots which made it highly advanced for it’s time and allowed a lot of replayability.

Banjo-Kazooie was my favorite game of all time, though.

If you have a strong PC and setup software emulation with modern emulators, and use CRT filters / shaders, then its not bad. It’s pretty good nowadays. I mean its even good enough for Speedrunners as a replacement for real hardware. Most 3D emulation will never be perfect. We don’t even reach perfect emulation for most 2D and older hardware. To me the biggest problem is the game controller setup. With the layout of the regular controllers, some games aren’t as good to play (Mischief Makers / Yuke Yuke Troublemakers come to my mind).

Shaders are good when used properly, usually not in 16:9 1080p LCDs; old hardware is relatively cheap and emulation not very faithful in this case. On controller side looks like there’s an 8bitdo controller but I’m not informed , I just need a way to control X-axis (oh lol, I was confused with GameCube for the axis, in n64 you have one stick for the movement with usually standard axis.)

A new pilotwings would make me think hard about getting a Switch 2.

A new Custom Robo would 100% do it.
