Carrots used to be purple originally.

I just had purple carrots yesterday. Is there some controversy about them I don’t know about?

You never thought having the same standardized food throughout the year everywhere on the continent is actually weirder?

Yeah, my mom grows carrots in a variety of colours, not just the new orange one that’s become so common. Also grows blue potatoes, purple beans and whatnot, because she has more fun with more colourful food.

Dark heirloom tomatoes are pretty neat too.

I grow carrots of multiple colors all year round. They honestly all taste the same.

Which way? For me cooked carrots are horrific just like mushrooms. Good raws are super nice and crunchy.

The texture issue is with cooked carrots. However, I also don’t like how carrots taste. Fresh fruits and vegetables in general, actually. Literally the fresher they are, the more they taste like themselves, so I’m one of the only people alive who prefers vegetables from fast food places 🙃

        mushrooms

I feel you on the mushroom texture, but still, cooked mushrooms are my favorite “”“vegetable”“” by a country mile. Like the texture sucks, but it’s a savory vegetable. It’s the cool vegetable. The rest “taste like veggies” to me. 🤮 Like I really owe mushrooms an apology for not eating them for the first half of my life.

Wow yea that is a frustrating position to be in. When you have a taste that is physically unpleasant, it really makes it inedible. Worse if others can’t taste it, as I feel half don’t believe it could taste different.

I can imagine boiling carrots in a stew or in the beans. Or thoroughly steamed. Or roasted with potatoes

Yeah, my daughter loves purple color. So making mashed potatoes and adding in purple carrots would be kinda nice.

You could use purple potatoes. Or Aussie sweet potatoes, which are orange.

I already did. The place I buy vegetables had purple carrots for a while, which cost more than orange carrots. I still bought them.

I mean, green ketchup tastes exactly the same as red one, so I’m used to colour being somewhat meaningless. Same with clear cola.

That’s because those foods are made with distilled food colorings that are designed to be as tasteless as possible.

The colors in fruits and vegetables often reflect their vitamin content/taste.
