Great article, but glosses over some of the very clear and persistent effects of structural racism.

For instance, in Essex County, which is the southernmost point of Canada and former lake-bottom, thus incredibly rich agricultural land and great for corn, etc., the Homestead Act requirement of 5 year deadlines for clearing land was available to whites but enormous work, so they gave 10-year leases to black farmers who cleared and developed homesteads, but were evicted at end of lease, with none of the assets.

Most of these evicted farmers were refugees from slavery, or their children.
