Question:
Where are you interacting with and being interacted with others online in the most authentic and fulfilling way for you?
Background:
I have been really seeking out some participation in a group for the purposes of knowledge sharing. I turned inward with the rejection of typical social media doom scrolling. But have since found it very difficult to get out of isolation with a remote job.
I want to find community digitally but have been struggling to do so.
I joined a gaming Reddit group a decade ago that provided the opportunity for me to talk and play games with a fairly moderated environment.
I’ve found Discord to be substantially less participatory than that TeamSpeak/Reddit combo was.
I would LIKE to find something similar here on Lemmy because I think link aggregators and long form write ups are more of my preference of communication with others online (forums). I’d go to reddit but I left for digital privacy reasons.
I’m in this discord server for autistic people which has been really nice. We’re in the process of testing out a selfhosted chat server so that we can start moving off discord
Good luck
Thank you, the self hosted server so far has gone well
I agree this is nowadays hard to find. old school forums on specific topics (tech, games, music) tend to catch this. Gaming groups (guilds, multiplayer based games, modding communities) I have had great interactions on.
Anything that is a bit more ‘specific’ or focused around a hobby tends to work good for opening discussions. Its a shame a lot is focused on reddit but not all is so don’t lose hope!
MyDigitalLife (MDL) works best if you’re using windows and hydrogenaudio.
I am still leaning onto forums because this is the kind of internet i grew up with.
