I don’t need you anymore Nintendo. I have a PC. - Me Since 1998
Classic Nintendo! Please do buy their products as you did before while complaining.
Nintendo is legally right, but that doesn’t mean they are morally right.
They’re always very tone deaf when it comes to communicating with their fans. They could have used this opportunity to gift people 50% off coupons on their digital store or some shit like that which would cost them nothing while gaining them community fervor.
But time and time again, they’ve shown they’re the ones who dictate how they operate and consumers can either consume it or go away. Very conservative and a bit archaic if you ask me.
A company who’s products i would happily pirate, though have no interest in anymore.Yes and no. It took a law suit to overturn the tariff. So a lawsuit against passing the tarrif cost to customers makes sense. Customers can say they only paid it because it was the law at the time.
Its a stupid legal argument too. Why can’t we just say “Nintendo chose to pay the tarriff cost, they don’t deserve a refund”?
because you don’t own the government, the corpos do
Hey dumbass, voluntarily can have two flavors, willingly and begrudgingly.
I love paying more for shit for no fucking reason. The mental gymnastics these chuckle fucks use is astounding.
I know they make some great IP, but come on folks, look at how shitty they treat all of us. We have to stop giving them money.
They’re literally arguing that it’s the customer’s responsibility to stop giving them money.
Agreed Nintendo, done!
I have a saying that I keep to.
“Nintendo. Not even pirated.”
I refuse to help maintain the popularity of their IP, even through piracy. Everyone should stop buying their shit until they learn to treat their players with decency. It’s not gonna happen, but I can dream.🤝🤝🤝
and support librePlease tell me, which morally superior gaming corporation you support instead?
Seriously. Sony went mask off and is killing goodwill, Microsoft wasn’t ever serious outside of the early 360 era. Steam has its own legal battles in court over how it abuses it monopoly.
Maybe Sonic was right. There truly is no ethical consumption under capitalism.
Sonic is comrade?
To be fair I went to a job interview at NoA once, and if that’s anything to go off of then they treat each other like crap, too. It just seems to be the culture over there.
I have never in my life been spoken to that way at a job interview. Just some real nastiness.NoJ is great and you’re basically set for life if you get in.
NoA is mostly contractors, if you’re not high management or extremely specialized consulting, it’s no better than any other American AAA gaming studio. Really shows how culture and regulations keep companies honest.
Care to give any examples? I’ve been through some shit interviews too, wondering how bad they are now.
I can’t speak to how they are now now, as this was about ten years ago, and I don’t want to be too specific as they are extremely litigious lol, but…
I applied for a jr position, something I was not overly qualified for but could have easily done at the time with some training. I am now a Sr in that position, so the capacity was there. Anyway, round one interviews are fine, nothing stands out there, but like I said it was ten years ago, at least. Then for the next interview I had a call with the director of the department I was applying for. He was short with me from the start, and I remember being incredibly taken back by his attitude before we’d even gotten into the interview. I have extreme social anxiety and am admittedly terrible in job interviews, so being thrown off right at the beginning of the call didn’t help things. Then there seemed to be a misunderstanding on his part about which level of job I was applying for. He clearly thought I was underqualified either way. He asked me what I now can confirm were insanely technical and architecturally specific questions and then when he’d finally managed to trip me up on an answer he completely unloaded on me. For several minutes he berated me for wasting his and Nintendo’s time and then told me I was being blacklisted and to never apply for a position anywhere at Nintendo ever again. Which, no problem. Even though I understand he was just a jackass, I’m still recovering from it to be honest. But extrapolating how he must run his department and what that must mean for the culture over there, I have not been surprised by the downfall of Nintendo in the least. Shit is as shit does, my friend.I prefer they show their true colors in interviews. Makes it so much easier to not get the job. If they read your resume and gave you an interview but then claim you are under qualified, it is them who wasted your time.
Wow, that’s very bad, I don’t think I’ve had one that bad. Outright insulting you in the interview is simply uncalled for. Cutting the interview short is fine for both sides, hey it’s not a match, any questions? Then goodbye.
In tech we have some thing like that called the “Bar Raiser” interview. Typically it’s the second to last interview, last one being with people/culture/HR. The bar raiser is to “See if the candidate raises the bar”. It’s a horseshit way to justify “Belittle them and make them question themselves so much to see if they crumple under pressure”. Amazon did it to me, after 3 hours of straight interviews the 4th hour was the bar raiser. At that point I hadn’t eaten since breakfast, I had shakey hands, and was asked to implement binary search from memory on a white board. The “manager” then berated my implementation for 30 minutes and questioned every detail. I was very close to just passing out because I was so hungry. I remember literally stumbling nextdoor to mcdonalds and eating 3 cheeseburgers in under 5 minutes. No one offered me coffee, water, or a snack.
I bring this up now because maybe they were trying to do that, but they did it very poorly. The one credit I give that shite manager was that he didn’t belittle me, only everything I did. He never raised his voice either, only interrupted me constantly and rudely brushed off my answers. Granted, I hear that’s standard at Amazon.
In both of our cases, they do a great job at showing their place is toxic as fuck, and it was good we moved on. (Fun thing, I was laid off a few years ago and had the opportunity to reapply at Amazon, but luckily got another offer last minute. I ended up turning down Amazon, and man they do not like when people do that. You can tell they have just reports on reports to figure out why someone wouldn’t want to work there!)
I know they make some great IP…
Do they really though? Sure, it’s usually polished, but is anything they do more innovative, interesting, or good than what indies are doing (and at a small fraction of the cost to users)?
They treat the Japanese well and sell at discounted prices
Nintendo also voluntarily paid the tariffs as well then. Why are they fighting to get it back?
That damn good question and I used that for my argument in court.
They aren’t wrong but you can apply this exact argument to them. Nintendo willingly paid tariff prices so therefore they shouldn’t get their money back
This, though I would rephrase and say that this makes them very wrong.
I do not understand why people keep supporting that piece of shit company
Because all companies are pieces of shit. There is no such thing as a moral business. lol if there seems to be, they just have a good marketing and PR team. And people fall for it.
You can accept every company is only out for their bottom line and still prefer the companies that are offering you the best deal. Companies that are actively making games more expensive, locked down and requiring a paid subscription for online play are not offering you the best deal right now.
Yes, I’m aware. Most the pieces of shit usually don’t also insult their customer base on a regular basis on top of being pieces of shit though and then still get constant business.
Most the pieces of shit usually don’t also insult their customer base on a regular basis on top of being pieces of shi
These day? Yeah they do. Sony is in the fuck around stage as we speak. Microsoft was long into the Find Out stage.
Valve’s credit is that they are pretty good at not saying the quiet parts out loud. But that should have been the bare minimum.
It’s nostalgia, and Honestly I’m sick of Nintendo too
They have IP people are emotionally invested in. Disney is also a piece of shit company but ppl still support them too. People are fucking stupid ass children with zero sense of responsibility.
We are Nintendo, we sue everyone, but it’s just wrong if someone sues us!
There’s a reason I sold mine and moved to Eden.
That $^#%ing skidmark of a company needs to feel the pain and learn like Square Enix did.
What did Square Enix do?
They were the ones who, during COVI,D, had an issue with Final Fantasy VII and VIII, the original PC ports, breaking because they never patched the DRM since it launched and nobody was in the office to reboot the server when it went down. I think that went a long way to make people realize that server-based DRM is a horrible idea, and for them to realize that people were starting to question why they paid for something that broke when pirates had working copies.
They went from being the evangelist of third party DRM to reliably patching it out, now ever releasing several series on GOG totally DRM-Free. Still waiting on Dragon Quest, but the collection is coming along nicely.
Yeah, I’m never giving Nintendo another cent.
I didn’t buy a Switch 2, but the people who did are Nintendo’s biggest fans, and Nintendo have just told them in no uncertain terms “Haha, get fucked, loser”.
Time to learn how to pirate on my Switch 1.
Yeah, well said. I’m going to buy a refurbished steam deck
Nintendo: (opens mouth)
Me: lalalalala
Nintendo are the biggest cunts. Possibly the worst video game company. They consistently take the route of evil scumbag, even when that would take more effort and waste more money than just doing nothing.
How can I make Nintendo lose money? I don’t want to play any of their games.
Stop playing triple A games all together. They are all shitty companies who mistreat their employees.
Well that’s pretty easy to do. Most games I play are indy games or from smaller studios. They are objectively better anyway.
How can I make Nintendo lose money?
Seed.
Yes sir.
Switch 2?
Are there even any worthwhile games on it? I mean other than Nostalgiabait Racer #328.
I don’t think there’s a lot that could’ve prevented most of the current Switch 2 users from buying it. It’s pure zealotry. There was an argument for Switch 1 since it was the only “big” handheld console at the time, but the Steam Deck threw open the market for better, more versatile, more powerful handhelds.
Probably not, but I have kids and even though they’re very understanding I’d still like to provide if alternatives allow.
Possibly the worst video game company.
microsoft aids israel’s genocide and ubisoft management protected serial sexual abusers…
Also Blizzard and Activision protected a predator whose victim committed suicide.
I can only assume that people who think Nintendo are somehow worse than the likes of Sony and Microsoft have never looked at a single thing those companies have done that isn’t directly related to video games
i think it’s a combination of two things:
- these people had an emotional attachment to nintendo and it’s games growing up, or knew someone who did, so thought very highly of it. when faced with the reality that nintendo is just like any other corporation, aka they only care about their profits and nothing else and will act accordingly, the fall from heaven was brutal.
- the main targets of nintendo’s shittiness are its own customers and fans. microsoft may be helping mass murder of people in Palestine, ubisoft may have protected the sexual abuse of their employees by management, rockstar may do union busting… but gamers are none of these people. gamers are “consumers”, and highly lacking in empathy. so, in their eyes, nothing is worse than being “anti-consumer”. like, ask any gamer if they like ubisoft and, if not, why. they won’t talk about the sexual abuse, or crunch… they’ll talk about bad overpriced games and microtransactions.
Let’s hope it encourages a few people to think a bit more critically about other companies too, even if some others don’t get beyond “this directly affects me”
Tough competition. Between strictly video game companies though, it’s a hard choice
How can I make Nintendo lose money?
I get banned if I suggest the appropriate uprooting answer.
Too many cowards in the internet
Mario Kart aint that good people. Nintendo players at this point have a kink for being disrespected and humiliated.
Sonic Racing Crossworlds, despite its IP blowjobs, is a much better arcade kart racer than Mario Kart World.
Yeah, ain’t that the truth
People wanted a switch, they paid the only price that was made available to them. They voluntarily bought a switch, they were forced to pay higher prices to do it.
Nintendo is a shit company and their fans are cattle. But people did buy Switch 2 at higher prices. So no refunds.
My thinking exactly. This is probably going to get downvoted, but nobody forced people to buy Nintendo products. Owning video games is not a human right. US capitalism permits Nintendo to charge whatever they want for their goods. If you don’t like it, don’t buy the games. That is your right.
