A tool that allowed anyone to generate fake AI-generated imagery and superimpose it over real Google Earth maps quickly spurred backlash.
What else did they think it could possibly be used for?
(Rhetorical question, of course. We all know that AI bros never stop to think what their latest development is for, what problems it will solve, how people will use it. They just think ‘more AI = better’ and throw more datacenters at the wall, hoping something will stick and finally start making money to pay off some of the massive piles of debt they’re accumulating.)
Of course, now that we know Google has implemented such a system, and given that the accepted way to “rollback” a feature is just to turn it off and stop consumers from being able to access it, is Google Maps now a loss as far as research and OSINT goes, seeing as the company has displayed an ability and willingness to alter the information displayed?
