Plays like an old school ARPG. Love it. I think they added WASD movement after thr devs very publicly stated WASD movement will never be added into the game.

Berserker+occultist felt kind of squishy to start off but once you get some regen and bleed going I’m having a lot of fun.

I’ve been playing this game again since the newest DLC released and I’ve been having a blast. Definitely my favorite in the genre.

Same here! They really turned up the difficulty, so new users beware (or delight I guess if you are into that).

I realized that quickly. I only play hardcore in ARPGs, and the character show in in the screenshot is already populating my graveyard, something that hasn’t happened to me that quick in a long time (most of my chars die somewhere in the transition from veteran to ultimate)

It’s a fun game! I played it for around 10 hours on steam deck. It’s a bit difficult to get the controls right but it’s a blast when it works

I’ve got thousands of hours in this one! It’s my all time favorite ARPG. The only thing that even gets close to this is Last Epoch, but that’s a completely different feeling to play.

Never played it but screenshot makes me think of Diablo II. I miss that game. I think it was the first game that made me feel like my trackball was the superior choice (to a mouse).

Game requires spyware (Windows) to play on a computer, but somewhat ironically, I have an Xbox, so I could play it there. (Also have a PS3 and a Switch.) Gameplay trailer on their website makes it look more like an action game than an RPG though. Either way it looks like a bit of fun.

Nowadays there’s Diablo 2 Resurrected which runs fine under Linux using Proton.

Also, there is a long running community mod (since 2016) for Grim Dawn called Reign of Terror which tries to replicate the D2 feeling in Grim Dawn - just be aware that although it already has been updated to work with the new expansion, there might currently be some unexpected issues around.

Which game requires Windows to run? I run diablo 2 ( resurrected) on Linux.

I’ve run it through battle.net ( over steam ) and you can buy I directly through steam as well. You’d need to link your steam account to your battlenet, but it works fine.

Unless you mean grim dawn. I haven’t tried that one on Linux, but protondb claims it’s platinum.

I was looking for d2 experience but alas this game presented zero challenge for higher difficulty modes. Only 2 opponents are giving trouble - those gods (optional boss fights), and mostly cause they heal themselves faster than I damage.

Kind of sad given how d2 challenges you from nightmare right away.

I hope Titan Quest II can recover. I never cared for the aesthetic of Grim Dawn, but Titan Quest I loved.

      New class? What’s that?

Gonna create another character to level up nothing but necromancer&arcanist with spending all points to calidor’s tempest skill.

Probably going either Berserker/Nightblade for those piercing/bleeding/cold synergies or Berserker/Necromancer for the 2h/cold/piercing style. I’m not completely sure for now haha

Not gonna go for a chaos build for a first char tho - i am such a masochist that i deleted every single thing in my stash when FoA came out lol

I did Berserker/Nightblade cold bleed and got to level 40, beat big bad Log, was a total blast.

Now any other class I play I miss having Leap as a skill - it’s such a good movement skill.

Yeah, Berseker/Nightblade gives a huge amount of mobility, even if not leaping into the fray; just combining Pneumatic Burst and Rallying Cry makes you zip across the screen :-)

I am doing a revisit, and not sure what happened but after an update the save vanished on the Steamdeck. Uninstall and reinstall did not fix it. Then the game stopped working altogether. Then after a third software update everything is back and running.

Yeah, recent update completely borked game on both linux and windows. Devs released a patch soon after that added “comparability mode for linux peasants”, but I saw suggestion for windows users to also use it, cause it solves same issue.

Cloud saving was always wonky in Grim Dawn, including inducing performance problems; i would advice you to disable it if you don’t need it,

I have never had an issue with cloud saves and I have been playing since the beta/kickstarter. Losing my saves would be devastating at this point with all of my characters.

Good for you - for me cloud saving introduced stutters, which were caused by the way they handled updating the cloud saves; always felt like it feels if your HDD i/o is too slow to cope with something and the whole thing starts grinding down, while being installed on a NVME drive. Disabling the cloud saves made those issues disappear.

Good to know. The screen on the deck is so dang small it gives me eye strain sometimes and I like switching to a large monitor, but not if causes issues.

You might use something like Syncthing to synchronize the prefix data, making cloud saves unneccessary without much effort.
