We are so back! This is my kind of Nintendo Direct. Hombrew just does what Nintendont.

Decompiled Mario Kart Wii native on Linux (meaning 4K 120Hz) and all that cool stuff coming with it.

And RetroRewind a Mario Kart Wii Custom Track Distribution including all previous Courses and some of the later ones included as well as a reverse engineered server (which seems to be down right now for maintenance). Devs are also very active.

They did honestly perfected the physics and some of the item weights in Mario Kart 8, but I suppose I can live without it, especially the minute long invincibility frames. Its still in Beta but am looking forward trying this out later today.

EDIT: I think I misunderstood :( Its too separate things, but two really cool things! And they do seem to be working on getting RetroRewind run in Wiicompiled! As I said I have to take look myself first.

I like it, but worry that might be the lynch pin Nintendo uses to sue the project.

I might have lied in my post, sorry :( it seems to be two separate things, for now at least. They are working on bringing the Mod to the Decomp though. Still cool and the decomp should be playable as a standalone even if its still a beta.

Oh, hell yeah! The kids had some troubles with emulated Mario Kart on the Steam Machine the other day. This should make it significantly easier.

Edit: Meh, looks like it needs an external launcher for now. I was hoping for a simple executable I just point at the ROM.

I’ve been playing RetroRewind for a few months via emulation. Amazing game and quite unbelievable that online works with this port. PC ports being cross compatible with the Wii is quite astounding.

You mean that in reference to Wiicompiled? I never Decompiled anything myself, but from the videos I have seen about it it does look rather tedious to push bits around all day long until they match. AI is kinda made for the job. Sure it makes it far less special than it to be a group effort, but it works. I just hope the models, maps and everything else are handmade.
