We lost something over the last 10 years. Cloud solves some of the problems, but heavy usage of cloud creates so much more problems that it solves it. And the cost of the Cloud with the DevOps in it can be saved with smart usage of smaller scale teams and better plan for deployment. So let's talk.

    Anyone using the national domain registrar? Does it only resolve nationally, if you buy from there, as the article implies…?

    But you want your domain over the world. Cool, do you have enough clients to need this? Then you can hire a person in each country to buy you a domain from the local registry.

    I’ve been interested in getting a domain name, but it always just felt like a scam to pay a monthly fee for an entry in a database. If the national registrar is good enough, that would be cool.

    Although, I guess, if it is not, I’d at least still be somewhat more at peace with that, since it would mean the intermediate company actually does something…

      I believe most (all?) registrars should let you give them a global DNS server, at which point your domain should be resolvable globally. Whether it’s reachable isn’t at the registration level, it’s at the DNS level. The blog author’s comment confuses me. Maybe they mean like having a TLD that matches each country with users? Seems not worth it.

      You can get a domain for like $10 a year from many places. The national registrar I looked up was like $7 a year (Brazil).

          Yeah, I think that’s right, but where your clients are is irrelevant. That’s what confused me about the author’s statement.
