French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney are set to meet Sunday to deepen economic and security ties on the remote North Atlantic archipelago of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon.
The meeting comes days after Carney embraced the prospect of Canada becoming the European Union’s first associate member, saying closer ties with the continent would ensure no country could control Canada’s markets or undermine its sovereignty.

The leaders will discuss deepening the Canada-France partnership in strategic sectors, including aerospace, energy, critical minerals and advanced technologies such as quantum computing, satellites and supercomputing, Carney’s office said in a statement.

As a Canadian, I am ashamed I have never visited the islands. Will have to correct that.
I mean. I’ve never visited the capital, any of the territories, and at least 2 provinces. I haven’t been to 99% of national parks.
It’s not THAT surprising not to have visited a random island off the coast of Newfoundland
Well, have visited pretty much every major city in Canada. Have lived in four different provinces. Have driven from coast to coast countless times, have a trip to Yellowknife already booked for next winter. Would be fun to visit a European country right off our shores.
Apparently people don’t really recommend it. You’re better off spending your time and money in St. John’s.
If you speak French it’s fun to hear continental French just off the coast of NL but otherwise it’s two small islands with very few people - if you want islands that speak French near home I would check out les Îles de la Madeleine before St Pierre et Miquelon - actual beaches where you can swim and better scenery.
