Sure. All that is valid, from a purely academic perspective. But, this isn’t an academic issue. There is currently a concerted effort being made by American interest groups, to destabilize Canadian sovereignty. This effort is also being pursued by Russia. Both countries are actively pushing the idea of Alberta separatism in order to undermine Canadian unity as a prelude to making their own land-grabs at Canadian territory.

All Canadians should be taking this very seriously.

Oh, the right wing, US aligned newspaper, with US owners doesn’t want us to fight this fight.

Albertans are not a ‘people’ in a way that international law would recognize

And we all know that. It’s not about cultural distinctness from Saskatchewan, because lol.

Separatists are pretty up front about what this independent Alberta would do. Basically, it’s a power grab so they can build some kind of imaginary far-right wonderland. They don’t have much support, either, as of last I checked.

I’m going to say this bluntly: This issue is an example of how propaganda becomes weaponized when there are enough morons to buy into it.

It’s a very serious issue and there are problems on many levels that don’t get solved until people are capable of putting aside their emotions and using critical thought. As a society, we are not encouraging people to be smart enough to be resistant to this kind of manipulation. The opposite is what is happening, at incredible speed.

Hearing that Alberta has 10x as many mail-in ballot requests this time around, compared to regular referendums/elections, I’d argue, is cause for concern and to take this whole thing seriously. Even more so with the recent changes to citizenship, which opened the door for expats from America to be considered citizens, and also with the backdrop of the Alberta republican party “leaking” voter lists etc. Not to mention the general increased animosity/unrest, with a very vocal and funded group being anti-Canada, with a provincial government that has leaned on the scales to benefit the separatist groups, and kowtowed to Trump’s whims. Oh, and America’s very open declaration that they want to annex Canada economically, and that they view the most viable path being one that goes through Alberta.

In the USA, there were fairly strong indicators that the swing states had been manipulated in their most recent election. One of the analysts that came forward shortly after it, noted that it would be possible for certain companies/groups to use the electronic voting systems to submit votes using information gathered by events like Elon Musks voter “lotteries”. The republican party of Alberta ‘leaked’ similar details.

In terms of their “international law” based right to secede, the writer of this article doesn’t seem to have gotten the memo from our Prime Minister that the rule of international law is tepid, at best these days. If Alberta holds a vote on leaving Canada, and Canada says “Nah, not legal!”, the USA will potentially use it as an excuse to “help Alberta” more explicitly. The USA is openly committing war crimes, crimes against humanity, and boasting about it. When verbiage like ‘trade war’ reaches their administration, half the time they respond with comments like “We’re not at war with Canada, Canada doesn’t even have a military to fight, we’d annihilate them” - their default operating mode is violence when opposed. The article’s writer lives in a pre-Trump world.

Maybe an old professor of international politics from Ontario isn’t that in tune with issues out west. Like a blacksmith arguing that horses will remain the primary mode of transport after the invention of automobiles, he’s preaching the importance of international laws at a time when international law is in shambles. And he’s making these sorts of remarks from the part of the country that’s the focus of western alienation – a distant resident of a capital region city decrying those deplorable ‘provincials’ for being uppity.

I mean, they have zero chance and are a bunch of fools.

But I also viscerally hate them for the mockery they’ve made of my province and for how they’re such vile fools. A perfect blend of idiotic selfishness and easily-manipulated dullardry. I suppose every province has these sorts of mouth-breathers lurking about but gosh someone seems to have given them enough money to afford a megaphone and now they’re so loud.

I can’t wait for the UCP to split back into regular conservatives and Wild Rose lunatic fringers again.

And that is how the left typically bellows the right to ‘win’. Oh don’t bother theybwont so that and then it happens. How could they do that it isn’t how things are done.

Architects of this most recent separation initiative should be forced to live in South Carolina.
