He could also call out the CRA underfunding that makes it difficult to go after the biggest tax avoiders and commend our RCMP for their reputed abyssmal record chasing down financial criminals. The money should start pouring in! And then back out…

I only see him saying we have low taxes for business, to attract investment, not saying taxes need to be higher. The tweet is just a sales pitch to investors.

Yea I’m not a Carney hater but this is absolutely not him critiquing the Canadian tax system.

Personally I don’t really care much about our business tax rates as I don’t think nearly as many companies are able to outright dodge taxation like in the US. I think our main issue with corporations here is monopolies, anticompetitive practices, and foreign ownership. Which I also haven’t seen much movement on tbh, other than trying to attract new players to our markets (vaguely competitive).

I don’t see how anyone could convince themselves that it’s a positive thing to say publicly. He has to know it’s highlighting an issue.

He mentions “turning Canada into the best place to invest.” Higher taxes are definitely not a part of something like that. He mentioned the low taxes not as a problem but as “invest here and taxes will cut into your return on investment less than elsewhere.”

That is not remotely what he’s doing. This is an investor pitch. He’s telling people to come here because we have low taxes. It’s genuinely not clear to me how you were able to read it any other way.

He literally says “We’re capitalising on those strengths”, referring to the previous list of items. He’s directly and explicitly calling low taxes a strength, not an issue.
