DND has signed new contracts worth a total of $67.7 million with Microsoft, Amazon, Google and their Canadian subsidiaries.
Unfortunately, American tech giants are an octopus and getting unwound from its tentacles is next to impossible.
I do hope that as Canada moves forward with this piece, we’re looking outside our borders and over to European companies.
OVH is a French cloud company, has at least 1 DC in Canada, and is completely separate from the U.S. in fact if you want to run an instance on OVH in the U.S., they are completely walled off from the rest of the worlds infrastructure. I could build a redundant server across Canada and France and England, but not the US.
This is hopefully 1 piece the government will work towards.
Next step which is even harder is unwinding from the U.S. services itself. It’s a battle of epic proportions
Even people will find it hard, microslop has windows installed on so many computers when companies could just easily install Linux on computers and save consumers money. They could just install mint, and have it pre loaded with bottles and proton. Sure there will be a time of frustration but people will eventually get over it.
