What if the syllabics of the Cree language dominated everyday communication? This is the question asked by Joi T. Arcand’s new exhibition at the Carleton University Art Gallery.

A key feature of the exhibition, which will run until Dec. 13, is a mural portraying a convenience store with signs rendered in Cree syllabics.

Arcand says she was inspired by the Cree language’s lack of visibility in Canadian society.
