Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney warned Thursday that the United States is trying to break Canada so it can “own us” as he urged oil-rich Alberta not to begin a process toward separation in Monday’s referendum.

The vote is not a direct referendum on independence. Alberta, which has the world’s fourth-largest proven oil reserves, will decide whether to remain a province or instruct the government to begin the legal process toward a future referendum on separation.

“This referendum comes at the worst possible time,” Carney told a large pro-Canada rally in Calgary. “The world has become more dangerous and divided. Some outside our borders are working to break us so they can own us.”

Hey Carney, why don’t you reach a little farther right and see how that goes?

Conservatism should be a disqualifier for positions of leadership. Willingness to work with fascists is fascism.

Libs and oranges always try and placate the cons, thinking it’ll smooth things over, but the cons take, and they take; and when the gravy train ends they give the finger back.

Let fort Mac burn once. Just once. And ask Marlaina how she likes the RoC now. It’ll be a good prep for becoming another Puerto Rico for America, too, if we frame it right, right down to the lobbed paper towel.

(Keep in mind that the best money-based thing Marlaina could do for the people is massively curtail foreign ownership of resource extraction to 49%, instead of the 99-100% it is now, but she’s still going with some moronic trickle-down plan that hasn’t worked since even before Peter lougheed’s time)

This is the second time I’ve replied to you about this, the Canadian extraction and midstream fields are not overwhelmingly foreign owned. The midstream field for instance is mostly TC Energy, Pembina, Enbridge, Trans Mountain and Interpipeline, all Canadian Owned.

Upstream includes Ovintiv, Suncor, CNRL, Tourmaline, ARC, etc. Yes some of these have moved to the US but most are not.

Are these companies still oligarchs with are too much power? Yes. Are they foreign owned? No.

The new pipeline is an even more interesting one since it will be under Trans Mountain (federally owned crown corp). You couldn’t ask for a better situation since the federal government can dangle that single asset over all of Alberta as both a carrot and a stick. Its literally a nationalized oil asset with profit going back into federal coffers for use elsewhere.

Edit addition for clarity: I agree with ALL your other statements.

          Daniel Smith’s first name.

Since Marlaina decided that people under 16 can’t go by anything other than their legal first name without parental permission in schools, many people will call her by her legal first name until they see her permission slip.

    Duh.

All while they keep threatening us not to “interfere” with their election. As always with right wingers, every accusation is a confession.

Plus Russian bots interfering as well. It could be nice if Ukraine would wipe out the rest of the data centres in Russia to help eliminate that noise.

Be nice if our countries took it as the declaration of war that it is and bombed the fuck out of them ourselves.

I’d say the same for the US but they’re way too close and way too violent for that.

I think a lot of them are hosted at local data centers in the US and abroad, not Russia.
