French Startup Estimates RSA-2048 Could Fall in Three Days With 23,000 QubitsFrench quantum computing startup Alice & Bob estimates that 23,000 cat qubits could break RSA-2048 encryption in three days, while 30,000 could defeat blockchain elliptic-curve cryptography in an hour, raising concerns about long-term data security and cryptocurrency exposure.
Alice & Bob assume cat qubits that almost never bit-flip.
So back to the very original Shor estimates for these doomsday articles
Nobody has perfect qubits that never bit flip, they all have noise. That’s why the estimates are in the millions. You need tons of redundancy or infinite time
Great, how many “cat qubits” do you have? Zero? Their paper isn’t even peer reviewed.
This is just the next hype cycle. Classical computers will be breaking these algorithms before quantum computers are even out of the laboratory, and we’ll be dead by then.
