My suggestion to everyone move off of US services on your own, I came to Lemmy to get off of Reddit (sadly I still have an account and use it occasionally, less and less as time goes by but it is still there). I stopped using Facebook a while ago other than for messenger but that is so rare that I could probably forget about my account. I was never a twitter user, I had an account to see the occasional post or something? But it is closed now and has been since Musk started kissing Donnies booty. I moved my blog off of Wordpress services and on to a Canadian host, I wanna say hosthero, with that I got an unlimited email address package so that I could replace Apple’s hide my email with random emails from my .ca domain. I had long ago stopped using Google services (minus YouTube) so nothing really changed there; except I stopped paying for youtube premium, as I have a pihole to block ads and trackers for my whole LAN I get weird ads (why I started paying for premium) so I found the app unwatched which blocks YouTube’s ads. I cancelled my Disney+, my Amazon Prime, and most of my Apple services and started sailing the high C’s again.
I have started to self host things on the home lab, but for my passwords I cannot afford losing access to them, if I fuck up my system, so I decided to use 1Password as my password manager as it is Canadian. I have returned to a pirates life for media, and I am working very hard to get everything off of Apple. Hopefully by the end of July I will have finally done it.
