  • Many people like Canada compared to the USA for its more socialist policies like healthcare and social safety nets. These systems aren’t perfect in Canada but are certainly better than not having them. The problem is we can’t call it socialism because many on our far right will twist anything with socialism included in it to equal literal nazis. A lot of those same far right also push for more police power, deportation, and overall a national “white Canadians” world view. Its fucking stupid.

  • This law is great. However i think some level of legal reform needs to happen as well. The following is from the article.

Renaud was allegedly killed by her partner Johnathan Blanchet last September in Saint-Jérôme, Que. He’d been arrested dozens of times, convicted at least six times for incidents related to intimate partner violence, and accused of violating his probationary conditions about 15 times

This is a major case of repeat offences. Breaking probabtion 15 times is not a small deal. 6 convictions of the same violent crime is jarring. I’m not sure what the exact solution is. Longer sentences and mandatory rehabilitation before release at that point seems reasonable. I think it would also be reasonable to have random check ins with specialists to gauge the individuals risk of a repeat offence. At that point maybe even an “I beat my partners” tattoo on his forehead.

  • It doesn’t even need to be the “manly man” stuff you listed. Many boys would enjoy catching and counting frogs or bugs for a school project. And a lot of them prefer a more hands on environment when learning. Instead of drawing chemical structures in science they may prefer building them with 3d modeling toys.

Also just having more opportunities to burn off some energy can help them stay focused. Even in college if i started getting too fidgety and losing focus a couple laps walking around the building would help me regain my focus.

Every child is different. There may be some girls who have similar interests or struggles just as there may be some boys who would prefer to spend recesses nose deep in a book instead of on the sports field.

  • Acknowledging differences in children’s learning abilities and habits is not inherently a bad thing. We aren’t asking the system to start favouring boys, we just want it to be as equal as possible by providing a variety of education techniques and opportunities to all students.

One potential change could be having a male and female teacher grade all major assignments to account for the allegeded girl favouritism in OP’s comments. I know myself I failed an essay in high school because i had an english teacher refuse to accept that metal music and hard rock could express more emotions than just anger. I can’t say that was a gendered problem, probably more of a beliefs problem, but it certainly wasn’t fair marking.

  • Time to change with the times. We didn’t keep changing laws to support whale oil when alternatives were found. Maybe a bad example as we do change laws to support fossil fuels all the time but i think my point remains. If you aren’t selling office furniture, shift to selling home office furniture. The architects could, idk maybe design housing instead of offices. And tbh if your restaurant is only afloat because it was the convenient nearby choice, maybe it isnt that good.
