I’m guessing that a good chunk of that usage is coming from the TrueNAS VM.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Canada doesn’t rule out military role in Iran war as Carney shifts his position on conflict
181·1 month agoApparently for people to fly off the handle at a headline that completely ignores what he said.
I wonder how much more reasonable the political discourse would be if people would just read the damn articles.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Carney tells Australian Parliament allies must draw closer as global order is 'breaking down'
51·1 month agoWell there’s the biggest part of the blame going to the US for upheaving the status quo. There’s part of the blame going to China for never really going along with that status quo in the first place . There’s some obvious blame for Russia, as well as for just about every group involved in the eternal shitshow that is the middle east. There’s some retroactive blame for Europe, who collectively had the economic power to not rely on the US for global stability, but never really got that ball rolling post WWII. Is there anyone else you were hinting at?

Canada@lemmy.ca•Carney tells Australian Parliament allies must draw closer as global order is 'breaking down'
141·1 month agoHe didn’t. When asked he said he wouldn’t rule out using the Canadian forces to defend Canadians in the area. Doing things like using special forces to evacuate embassies would fall under that umbrella.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Carney tells Australian Parliament allies must draw closer as global order is 'breaking down'
5·1 month agoAnd what “walking” was he supposed to do? Put boots on the ground to defend Iran?
Nothing Carney says or does can exist siloed into its own neat little vacuum, especially when it comes to Trump and the US. So while coming out guns blazing right from get go might have made you feel better, it would do absolutely nothing to help Iranians, and it would likely harm Canadians when Trump inevitability lashes out in return.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Carney shifts Canada’s position as Trump fails to justify war against Iran
222·2 months agoSo as events unfold, the government updates its position. Why is the author presenting this as a bad thing? It’s not surprising that the Canadian government would initially be generally supportive of strikes; they had already declared the IRGC a terrorist organization after all.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Eby calls reported meeting between Alberta separatists and U.S. official ‘treason’
55·3 months agoIt’s not the separation talk itself that’s the problem, it’s the meeting with US officials.
Also, what someone may have gotten away with in the past has absolutely no relevance to what people should be getting away with today.

7·3 months agoHonestly, I’m increasingly looking forward to the moment when Trump finally fucks off, if for no other reason than I no longer have to hear the shit that comes out of Hoekstra’s mouth. He has the verbal equivalent to the world’s most punchable face.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Carney names ex-Blackrock executive as new US ambassador
27·4 months agoHow much power do you think an ambassador has? Especially the US ambassador. Ambassadors to other countries may hold significant sway, as the rest of the government may be relying on the ambassador for knowledge and recommendations on affairs relating to that country. For the ambassador to the US, the whole government, and a good chunk of the general population is already paying very close attention to the US. The ambassador is just a messenger.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Toronto- Quebec City high-speed rail could see dozens of daily trains: documents
14·4 months agoA train an hour seems reasonable to me at this point. I think a train every 20 minutes would result in a lot of empty trains. Good to have extra capacity for the future though.
I really hope they don’t wait decades to build the other half the line once Toronto-Quebec City is done. Windsor itself may not be big enough to drive major traffic, but I’d bet that if you put stops in Kitchener and London, those two would be very busy.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Toronto man outruns newly-opened Finch LRT by 18 minutes
41·4 months agoDepending on use case, yes I am fine with parts of the system being equal to jogging. If the UP express were the same speed as jogging, yeah, that would be a problem. For a short local surface route, with multiple stops, I’m less concerned. Especially when it’s only been open for a week and there’s already known fixes planned.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Toronto man outruns newly-opened Finch LRT by 18 minutes
61·4 months agoThat’s also not really the point. Most workplaces limit manual lifting to 50lbs or less. Just because people can lift more doesn’t mean it’s reasonable to expect them to do it. Similarly, the vast majority of people are not going to be willing or able to run 20k a day going to and from work.

10·4 months agoThis guy probably was smart at one point; idiots don’t tend to become university professors. Of course that was years ago and he’s since gone completely off the rails. My guess is what started out as a calculated grift slowly became his actual worldview. Kinda like the “fake it 'till you make it” principle, but pointing in the wrong direction.

Is a country in the middle east. What does that have to do with a Canadian politician’s presence on a specific social media platform?
