Canada@lemmy.ca•The U.S. Alcohol Industry Is Reeling From Canada’s Booze Boycott
16·9 months agoand thinking alcohol is bad for you.
I mean there is a strong scientific consensus on that.
I can also recommend everyone to say goodbye to alcohol. Alcohol free beers can be quite good nowadays. The only taste i miss sometimes is a Whiskey where you can taste the smokiness but it isn’t too strong yet. Still not worth the negative health effects.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Canada to recognise Palestinian state at United Nations
93·10 months agoI am sorry, but nowhere does he say that.
The “we want a two state solution, but wont recognize a palestinian state until Israel agrees to it” has been the modus operandi of many Genocide supporting countries. They know Israel wont ever agree to it while they reject putting actual pressure on the Zionist project.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Canada finally reveals the results of its universal basic income experiment
12·10 months agoThat is false. As a lesson learned from the Great Depression and the Second World war most countries made sure to have good social protection and wealth was relatively well distributed through good paying manufacturing jobs. People had access to opportunities in the form of free or cheap education and simple wealth through owning a house or apartment was accessible to a large portion of society.
Then Neoliberalism came up in the 80s to destroy this.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Americans that are in the armed forces, What is the current feeling inside it?
10·11 months agoThe thing is that it becomes different when the order becomes “go to your home town, shoot anyone who disobeys, including your friends and family.”
It might take a decade of brutal civil war, but look what happened in Syria. In the end the people in the army were also tired of murdering their own people.
Let me explain you how the Red-Workers-Movement of 1922 in the Oblast-Utbackya had this structural issue in their organization by the theory of famous late 19th century analyst.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How to tell the difference between being burnt out and just being lazy?
3·1 year agoThere is also people who just hang on their phone all day or gossip in the kitchen. I have seen that in the best and in the worst working conditions.
There is good reason, why the principle “same pay for same work” usually does not include surveillance of productivity. But it does feel infuriating to not make 3x as much despite having 3x the productivity of some people that have a similar or even higher salary thanks to seniority, when i am basically financing their lack of productivity.
I agree that the term “laziness” is often used by management to shift blame onto the workers and i don’t know how a solution could look like that would address real laziness without infringing on workers rights.

8·1 year agoForeign tourists bring in foreign money, which helps balance the trade deficit.
By itself it wont be a massive impact, but combine it with many other small to medium impacts and the load on the empire will become challenging to bear more and more.
