In that spirit, Canada First means this.
I know everyone scrolling by already knows this, I just think it bears repeating.
Speaking of improving infrastructure, cbc is building out local news and hiring (permanent contracts in a unionized gig btw, for any fantastic yet out-of-work journalists scrolling by).
I got one today pretending to be from the NDP. There’s everyday scams, but it’s giving Pierre Poutine. I smell shenanigans.
Hope those 4 are already on their planes home after their bosses realized they hired trash.
If you have to share space with them again, may I suggest bringing up what it’s like being a “migrant worker in Korea”? Groceries are a little different, you miss your oven maybe, the usual foreigner small talk, but keep using the term migrant worker (or temporary foreign worker, for those racist Canucks). When they correct you with the term “expat” - as their beliefs dictate they must - ask them to explain the difference and don’t let up when they deflect. Insta explody heads every time.
I’m really sorry that happened to you (and anyone else in the bar who had to witness it). Even more sorry that Korea keeps getting the dregs whose only marketable skill is their ability to speak their own language. Guaranteed, each of those assholes has at least 1 dramatic story about how really racist Koreans are against white people though (like, my coworkers weren’t impressed that I can eat hot sauce, a woman wouldn’t give up her seat on the bus when it was was obvious my feet hurt, nobody cares I can do the Gagnam Style dance, where’s the Korean wife I was promised, etc).
I have it on pretty good authority he literally cried tears of blood after learning about the all the Portuguese colonizing Nfld back in the 1500s. Too swarthy.
[side note: anyone scrolling - this - is a much better read than the link up top. ty for the risky search azi.]
Racism is always so stupid.
For anyone skimming by who doesn’t want to rtfa: Edmund Greggains’ objection to Skippy’s Canada First rally speech is that it had too many not white foreign-sounding names in it. Like Patel and Mohammad.
And here he is in a different rant on the same site getting frothy and self-defensive about coolie labour building Canadian railroads, black folk having to escape slave owners and other racist white industrialists even after escaping to Canada, Sikhs existing in Alberta… And here he is again upset about Brampton.
Basic aggrieved white subject using a precious imagined Canadian White Identity to feel important and embattled; upset at Poilieviere and Danielle Smith for not being racist enough. Trying at the end of OP’s linked article to equate the Yankee threat of annexation with all those foreign-sounding names somehow taking over his Canada.
Only through acknowledging this will we be able to fight off mass immigration, restore our hereditary culture, and safeguard the future of a Canadian people and state.
Is this question rhetorical?
Charlie Angus is doing some heavy lifting. Respect.
We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to transition official government communications away from Twitter/X to more secure, community-regulated platforms that prioritise public safety, accurate information, and accessibility. We encourage the government to explore publicly accountable alternatives, including decentralised networks, to ensure reliable and responsible communication with Canadians. - 5359
We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to:
- Ban the social media platform X on all government agencies’ communication channels;
- Ban political candidates at all levels of governments to campaign, promote, disseminate, and share contents or messages under public or official capacity; and
- Publicly encourage private Canadian entities and users to use alternatives to communicate and interact with their audiences. - 6378
Enough signatures means a petition HAS to be presented in the HoC and a government response MUST be tabled. The “revoke Elon’s citizenship” petition that got popular is the most symbolic gesture of these 3, but I think they’re all for the same main purpose: make our elected reps talk openly and on the record about the seig heil in the room. If they legislate deplatforming his main propaganda arm, that’s just gravy imo.
Wish there were actual punishments for misinformation instead of cost-of-doing-business fines.
From OP’s link:
Undermining [local autonomy and community ability to veto major projects] with sophisticated, well-funded astroturfing campaigns is a common denominator linking several similar efforts that are taking place in Canada right now. Recent investigations have revealed a pattern of astroturf organizations, directed by individuals connected to conservative parties and/or the oil and gas sector, running “concerned citizens campaigns” in Regina, in Saskatoon and in Crowsnest Pass, Alberta.
These campaigns poison public discourse by flooding the proverbial “marketplace of ideas” with false and misleading information, to the point that it becomes effectively impossible to have a meaningful public conversation.
Leaving this link here in case anyone wanted a quick scroll of the Manning Centre approved media that amplifies all their shit.
Peat bogs are really important as far as global warming is concerned. Don’t throw hazardous waste on top of them.
the Quebec minister of natural resources and forests introduced a bill to force the city to sell the land to allow the expansion to go forward
That’s so fucked in the head.
“We are not the trash can of the United States,” Ruba Ghazal, an opposition member of Quebec’s parliament, said at a press conference. She said it is unacceptable for Quebec’s ruling conservative party to “expropriate a city to give it to Trump’s United States”.
20 months is incredibly lenient, given the givens. And it’s with time served. AND there’s a possibility of him serving some of that time here in Canada. The kid’s been treated with kid gloves.
Thanks for the heads up about fisherman brand. Never heard of them!
I remember Green Beaver’s lip balm being decent, but they’re not a stick like Burt’s. Just searching with you:
The well site turned up this gem.
Attitude brand looks promising too.
[edit to add scentuals. I haven’t tried their lip “conditioner” but have used other products from them in the past and been happy with em]
“I’m sure it’s going to affect me, but I don’t really know how. I’ll have to do some research,” said Richard Malone
Next week someone’s gonna post google trending terms and we’ll find out every second search was “what’s a woke Canada tariff?”
Alternate source: Ford doubles down on threat to cut off energy to U.S. amid spectre of trade war
When Ford triggered the election in late January, he appealed to voters for the “largest mandate in Ontario’s history” to help his government navigate four years of the Trump administration.
The PCs picked up 80 seats — a sizeable majority of 17, but only one more than at dissolution and three fewer than they won in 2022.
Despite the result and costly price tag, Ford said Monday the election was “100 per cent” worth it.
Well… yeah. He got a Superbowl ad for himself during an international crisis. He got to be CanadaMan on the world stage. Ontario having to shell out for our second provincial election in 3 years is a small price to pay.
[eta a clip from the newsbit]
Fantastic list.
Without the Narwhal, most of us would have no fucking clue what DoFo and Co were up to with the Greenbelt since 2018. Just as a for instance.
Someone posted a story yesterday from a new print paper called The Grind, and it’s really decent. Looks on the level so far. idk if it makes your cut for the list, but anyone looking for a free local paper in Toronto you can read irl like it’s 2010, they’ve got some drop locations in the city (Gateway news stands in the TTC, some record and book shops).
https://briarpatchmagazine.com/ out of Regina is another classic. Been around since the 70s and it’s unionized afaik.
if you feel despair, seek community and feed your soul. Please do not comply in advance, internet friend!
This right here is lovely, and I know I’m not gonna be the only person scrolling by who needed to read it. ty.
That Official Office Signing he got everyone to stand around for was my introduction to the Manitoba premier. Now we stan Wab in this house. Because it was a perfectly unserious response to all this Yankee dickswinging bullshit imo. Best of all, you could tell how happy everyone involved was to do the photo op.
