Yep. Don’t know what it is but the game is just so annoying sometimes for no reason. And under the hood it’s just the same gameplay loop as games like GTA. Go here, kill people. Go there, protect this guy. etc.

I was very close to buying it but after reading reviews like this one I knew I would be disappointed. It’s sad because I’ve been craving a really good, new, innovative city builder.
Yeah I had to really force myself to like it, start with YT videos before playing it myself, and constantly have 8 wiki tabs open. If you can get past that, it’s an awesome game with potential to waste hundreds of hours.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps is tied first place of all time for me, it’s an absolutely amazing game, and it’s quite similar to Hollow Knight I would say.
I tried HK and just didn’t feel … anything. There wasn’t really anything there to hook me, just mild frustration, so I dropped it.
Real. I just beat the main game a week or so ago and I have absolutely zero interest in picking it back up, even though I bought the DLC and there’s also post-game content.

Ori series, specifically Ori and the Will of the Wisps. It’s my absolute favorite game of all time. It’s got the amazing visuals and insanely good OST, crisp and satisfying platforming and combat, engaging and unique bossfights, incredibly gripping story, good difficulty settings and going for 100% is rewarding and not nearly as annoying as in many other games. While it may stray a tiny bit from the classic Metroidvania formula I think it still does it incredibly well.

The only thing that comes to mind is the mobile game Seedship, which I do highly recommend. It’s not the most expansive game but still fun. No “free typing” though.

You definitely need to be a certain kind of person to enjoy them. I used to be, but not anymore. Now I feel myself getting older and more frustrated with every new recipe I have to automate to get closer to the actually fun parts of the automation games.
