I generally try to avoid American, but I’m not so strict about it that I check the origin on the games I play (most of the time you can’t find that out anyway). I also buy them on Steam anyway, because Linux support.

I’ve already swapped out basically everything American of mine, but as time goes on I’ve been thinking of narrowing my target. The companies I’m mainly focussed on are below:

• Amazon
• Tesla
• Microsoft
• Apple
• Google
• Facebook
• Netflix
• Disney
• Boeing
• The gun companies
• The car companies
• The computer chip companies
• Visa/Mastercard (if that were possible)
• The banks (if they even exist in your country)
• Exxon/Chevron (I’m dubious on promoting a local community oil industry though)

I still use American streaming services (currently Amazon Prime) but I do the thing where you subscribe for 1 month and then unsubscribe for 2 years.

The reason I’m boycotting is to undermine America’s power. I don’t think boycotting indie games made in America does that. It would weaken their currency but the effects are marginal. The real impact comes from buying alternatives until they get to a point where they can compete, and in the arts America already has that competition.

The Australian government will do nothing of note, because the scapegoating of the prime minister by the press wasted all of the government’s political capital that they were saving up for some big swings.

Combustion engine cars become basically irrelevant outside of the US, Canada, and EU. Because if a country doesn’t have a domestic car industry then cheap Chinese ev’s are just better. In Australia you can see quite a lot of them.

For a big swing, I’m going with Trump dying. He’s pretty old, does not live a very healthy lifestyle, and he’s got some pretty rabid followers. I’ll hedge my bets and say Trump or Musk.

Climate change worsening is a given.

I’m going to predict that the forecasted warming goes down thanks to Chinese production (like every year).

Advertisements are a thing where you can turn them off and basically suffer none of the negative externalities (escaping the tracking is a LOT harder). There’s no real reason to form a movement over a basically solved issue.

It was never that Chinese stuff was bad, it’s that American companies outsourced their bad things to China.

I’m 25 and still sorting out the books I care to read. I’m overwhelmed with choice, particularly interesting works in genres that I don’t find much joy in.

I’d write a list of future events and share it everywhere I can, editorializing of course to make sure them coming to volition validates my political views, and then use the eventual fame to shape the world in my image.

Ignoring that path, and with no political sway of my own …

I’ve got nothing. I’d be like 5 years old and Australian. And overall Australia’s doing pretty fine. If there’s one issue I’d focus on it’s digital privacy and my biggest adversary there would be Google. IDK, there’s not really one domino I can affect to change things. Maybe warn about 9/11 and the subprime mortgage crisis but I’m pretty sure other people already did both of those to no avail. Plus I’d be 2 or so years old at the time of 9/11 so that’d probably not go well.

Depends whether you wash in hot or cold water. If you use more hot water washing dishes by hand then it’ll consume more electricity too.

Basically all of them. The only games I’m ever hyped about are ones I have personal reasons for. That means it’s by a developer of a game I really like such as Bennett Foddy or Zachtronics, or it’s in a very niche genre that I love but rarely see and don’t have the search terms for (Voices of the Void, etc.).

Mostly it’s to do with boycotts. Like, it’s not the end of the world if you don’t play a video game. I’m generally quite loose with my money if it’s not on any boycott list, since I can feel good about even pointless things if my money isn’t going to something evil.
