Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Managing knowledge and feelings that can't be shared
1·4 days agoBoth the reasons you listed may be part of it. I will try to approach it from your perspective which can help me to force myself. I will be able to do it if I really dedicate time and attention to it.

1·4 days agoThanks, if I somehow stumble on somebody who mentions even one thing I can relate to, I’ll be sure to listen and absorb what was said.

1·4 days agoWhat do you think of combining this approach with simple train of thought and/or sporadic notes? Funnily enough I didn’t even think of writing on a schedule or in a structured way until you just mentioned it.

1·4 days agoYes I was quite afraid, or maybe just somewhat prepared, that a healthy solution is not possible.
I guess I should note that a minimization of pain is better than nothing. So I’ll take any ideas that are healthy-adjacent at least.

1·4 days agoI really appreciate this idea. I’ve always thought I was no good at traditional “art” but perhaps I need to broaden my idea of what will constitute art and what can be made and kept in plain sight.

4·4 days agoThank you. This is really insightful and something that I think might be a robust solution for me. I’ll research GPG more, I clearly need to.

1·4 days agoSorry my writing may not be at its best, my sleep is terrible and it affects me more than I think.
Not sure if it was posted before. Requirements would be encrypted journal entries for digital and pen/paper for cases where something needs to be truly destroyed.
I think I’ve settled on a raspberry pi and some journaling program or simply a text editor. It’s been good to brainstorm.

8·4 days agoOne thing I want to try is journaling, to start.
Edit: has anyone ever tried to journal but was instinctively unable to write unrestricted? I think I just need to push through this feeling.

3·4 days agoI appreciate that a lot. The more I consider it I think for completely destroyed data, paper and a lighter will be best. The odds of me looking back on anything else are low, but part of me thinks keeping them is something I’ll one day wish I’d done from day one.

1·4 days agoThank you, the more I’m thinking about it, perhaps a raspberry pi with LUKS disk that’s airgapped would be best.
Though I still don’t know of a relatively nice journaling app.

1·4 days agoThank you very much. I’ll look into this.
Edit: I appreciate the suggestion but docker is not an option in my case. For further context for anyone else reading, I will sacrifice as many features as needed to ensure a secure system, even if this gets to the point of a locally run and air-gapped system. Though, if there is a level of convenience out there that doesn’t meaningfully sacrifice security then I would obviously like to take that route.

1·4 days agoThe weight of being unable to share things with literally anyone is totally fine until for some reason the crushing reality of your life comes crashing down on your consciousness and you start seeking some new form of mental relief like a cockroach looking for shelter in the midst of a nuclear fallout.

Thanks for your care and personal experience. I’ll say that perhaps one day I can re-examine whether this is something I can reasonably do. It’s nice to hear that it helped you.
