  • Yeah okay but Cyberpunk 2077 and No Man’s Sky were new games, not an ancient game that should easily run on a Switch 2 but somehow doesn’t. And even then it required an insane turnaround before people loved them again. Cyberpunk has undergone a crazy transformation since launch and it’s all for free (as should be expected when you release a dumpster fire).

This is not an easy thing, and not something you can keep doing constantly. Bethesda seems to be on a roll with releasing broken, overpriced, boring shit for a while now. And constantly milking Skyrim. There are plenty other games that I personally have played that aren’t there yet in this timeline either. Cities Skylines 2 just got a new developer and is still not that great, I don’t they’ll turn it around. Stalker 2 is on the right path (and I personally really liked it on launch and even more now), yet a lot of fans still seem pissed and the game is still properly janky. Pulling a Cyberpunk is the exception, not the rule

  • I’m Dutch, but due to the large amount of English content I never really had an issue with English. While I struggled with German and Fr*nch, I never had to pay attention or study for English lessons. I just did what felt natural and ignored the homework etc. Not that I’m a great English speaker or anything, my vocabulary is sometimes a bit limited which makes me have to search for the right words to use. But when watching or reading I can follow pretty much anything. I also sometimes feel like I’m more resilient to accents than native English speakers, maybe because we get exposed to British and American English and therefore kinda learn a more generalized representation of the language? Idk, maybe that’s not a thing

  • Really? That would surprise me a lot. Maybe it’s a cultural difference, I’m not sure where you’re from. I can’t imagine that the majority of the people I know only brush once a day, I’ve never noticed anyone deviating from the normal morning/evening pattern. But I also haven’t really paid much attention so maybe I just haven’t noticed. How do people do that? I tend to notice quite quickly that I forgot toe brush because it feels yucky.

  • I can never understand why you tankies are so insistent on seeing Russia as a good guy (or at least neutral). It’s an autocratic far-right regime with a silly desire for invading their neighbours. If the west is so bad for doing so everywhere then why not Russia? They’re not the soviet union anymore, they’re anything but communist. They’re everything the left should hate: imperialist, anti-“woke”, an oligarchy. I get why y’all like China because at least they pretend to be communist, but Russia?

  • Strongly disagree here. It might not be possible to change them, but that’s never for sure. OP should not let them say hateful shit just to keep the peace, and should instead keep countering it with facts even if it doesn’t help. Don’t make them feel like hatred should just be accepted. If they stop, maybe stop bringing it up as well.

I’m not from the US, and I’ve had to counter the dumb Facebook brainrot that got to my parents quite a few times. It’s insane to see how gullible they’ve become, so it is important to keep challenging them. Recently I was hit with some nonsense about the moon landing being faked. Even some simple statements like “we still have those computers and programs, anyone could’ve checked whether those could viably land something on the moon” and “so many people would’ve had to remain silent for such a thing to be successful” was enough to counter the nonsense. But I just keep wondering how they keep falling for it. It’s important to keep fighting (with words). Any seed of doubt may break their indoctrination, even if it’s not immediately

  • I need it to sleep comfortably, but airconditioning is not common here so when it’s 28 degrees Celsius inside the blanket gets yeeted. Having all balcony doors open without really any light cover and sleeping on a bed without any cover feels very exposed. But at lest it makes it somewhat bearable. This is only like 3 days a year tho, I really try to avoid it

  • Get shit back on track I guess. On the one hand I shouldn’t have much to complain. I own an apartment, have enough money to get by and buy myself something nice every now and then. But mentally and physically I’m a bit of a trainwreck at the moment. Burnt out and unsure what I really want from all of this. I kept going on too long in a state that provided me everything I wanted on paper, but somehow caused a lot of trouble in practice. Ignored my hobbies for so long that I don’t really know how to start with them again. I need my younger spirit back. The one that just did things because it sounded fun without overthinking or focusing on the end result. But I feel like corporate life has poisoned me to think in results and plan everything in advance.

  • 2 things come to mind:

The first thing is that at one point many years ago we participated in Rocket League’s RLCS. Participation was completely open. We were actually doing quite well until we randomly ran into pro players and got completely demolished. It’s kinda humbling to know that even though you’re part of the top ~1% of players, pro players are still in a totally different league and absolutely unbeatable. Their speed and game sense is so much better than that of any mere mortal, it’s like we weren’t even there. We were probably low Grand Champion around the time, and we got beaten like we would beat Gold ranked players. Personally I don’t mind losing like this, it’s a good learning experience and shows you how much is possible.

At uni I also participated in plenty of LAN parties that had random game competitions. Usually they were games that a lot of us didn’t ever play before. We’d usually start playing the game a few hours in advance to get a feel for it. There I’ve found that I’m quite decent at this usually, but that there are definitely a few people who can get quite decent at a game in 2 hours to the point that they challenge people with casual experience with the game. It as always good fun though, and because I tended to put some effort into it I regularly managed to get into the top 3.

  • If it were up to me that’d be fine indeed. But they probably want to retain compatibility with existing setups and unfortunately they will also want some DRM, which Blu-ray provides. A new flash storage (or even just download/file-based) standard should totally be possible, but that’d first require some investment.

Also, there’s some joy in having the plastic spinny thing and putting it into a machine to watch the content. Not having all the content ready at your fingertips and instead putting some throught and effort into getting to the content is what makes stuff like vinyl popular again.
