China does influence Canadian elections, makes demands regarding our internal politics, has agents in Canada stalking and harassing Canadian citizens for political reasons; they may not be trying to claim our territory but they do not recognize our sovereign authority over it when their interests don’t align with that.
I’m not arguing for USA over China, but that’s a false dichotomy to begin with. We don’t have to compromise.

The fucking mayor of Cambridge pulled the mic on a traumatized young person who had been invited to speak, when they had the audacity to talk about the mayor’s crony’s failure to apologize for the damage he did to the speaker’s community. In Guelph, anti-trans protesters openly heckled and intimidated attendees. And there’s no one left ready to fuck shit up when the fascists show. It’s gonna be fruit machines again before long if this doesn’t reverse.

I understand how that’s an appealing narrative that helps you make sense of the world and manage your feelings, and in that sense it is a very good narrative. But it’s not reality. The solution you’re so proud of requires a mass purge every three generations, and you think that’s just the way it has to be. Fully buying in to a narrative built around a cosmic conflict between good and evil FFS is buying in to the whole model of fascism. The ruling class WANTS the slaughter, the boom, the crunch, the conflict, and the next slaughter. Every step in the cycle, they ratchet their power and wealth. It’s not an accident that it keeps happening, and the solution isn’t just to play your role on the other side of the stage. It isn’t naive kids playing nazi who are your enemy, you naive kid playing WWII conscript. Fascism never ever occurs in the absence of wealthy capitalists. Shooting their employees doesn’t fucking solve anything.
