… this is AI we’re talkin about, literally everything is trained. I thought that would be assumed, sorry for not being clear enough.

48·13 days agoYeah, I dont know what the word is. My point is mostly that you can clearly see what it’s trying to recreate from a low-quality source. It seems to be keeping a very close adherance to the original looks? If you lay the images on top of eachother you can see the same creases around her eyes, the same nose shape, the same jawline, the same skin-colored makeup at the corner of her mouth to make her lips appear more defined. I think you’re spot on about the “training on conventionally attractive models” which is the part that I’m hoping improves with time. I don’t think applying this to existing works is appropriate at all but apparently it will use nvidia streamline so the mods will come whether we want them to or not sadly.

33·13 days agoWhat I’m upset about is the absolute wealth of information that will be forever trapped behind Discord. What ever happened to good old fashioned forums? Hell, even a subreddit would at least have been scrapable. If there’s a mass migration away from Discord then all that information just gets lost. Example that Lemmings might care about - CachyOS has a forum, but I’ve seen the vast majority of troubleshooting and user input made on their Discord channel.

76·13 days agoZoom in on the before; the textures are fairly low res so it’s hard to see at a distance but she clearly has eyeliner along her top eyelid. I can’t really tell if the intent was for the dark undereyes to be eyeshadow or bags from being exhausted. But you can tell the AI is pulling from source coloration, not just adding things willy nilly like a beauty filter. The lip coloration, idk, that could be an artifact of the early technology or a hallucination. But to me it appears that she had some sort of lipstick on because it doesnt extend all the way to the corners of her mouth. I don’t think contouring is the right word but maybe someone here who wears makeup could add some detail?
edit actually looking even more closely, i can’t tell if that’s eyeliner or just her eyelashes being dense. Either way you can see what the model is trying to replicate. I don’t think it looks good but it isnt doing a “beauty filter”. If the model is adding eyeliner, it appears to be confused based on the thick black line in the source image. Again, these are really low textures compared to what it’s trying to output so hopefully this improves over time like every other DLSS tech has.

914·13 days agoThis isn’t applying a filter, it’s
applyingrunning the image through a transformer network trained on advanced lighting methods like subsurface scattering to make materials more lifelike. It seems to change artistic intent quite a lot on these existing games, but frankly I’m excited to see what creators do with a game designed from the ground up to utilize AI-enhanced lighting. The DF video also states that this is an early preview (hence the dual 5090s) that is expected to change over time.

1015·13 days agoLighting in video games encompasses a lot of things these days. I’m not a graphic designer but, to my untrained eye, it looks like this tech is pushing hard on things like subsurface scattering to make materials appear more realistic. It doesn’t appear to be changing the actual polygons. This picture further down seems like a more realistic example of what it would end up looking like when the technology is complete. I think they picked that particular first image as an example BECAUSE it’s such a stark change.

I’ll admit i rarely used the machine fusing, I was just talking about the weapon inventory system. I’d just pick up sticks or whatever was around and slam the first “good enough” damage monster part I had to it and kept going. It’s a lot better IMO than having to hang onto all the good stuff and constantly be underpowered because “what if i need it for a boss?”
FWIW, I think they did a much better job in Tears of the Kindgom. Your weapons still break, but you can carry around a basically endless supply of monster parts that you “fuse” to whatever base weapon you happen to come across and it makes them powerful again. Sometimes all you need is a stick to make a good weapon. Still annoying, but waaaaaay less of an inventory management sim IMO.

1·2 months agoto get something as flexible as my android tv i’d need an nvidia shield and those are going on ten years old at this point. maybe if/when they do a hardware refresh, assuming sideloading isn’t completely impossible by then.

1·2 months agoYeah. To be honest on the DNS side it would probably be far easier to just do a whitelist instead, block everything except your specific service. and yeah, its a stupid amount of work. i hate smart tvs but i’ll be damned if im gonna pay extra for a streaming box =|

2·2 months agoNot sure if you mean hardcoded DNS IPs or hardcoded “phone home” IPs. Hardcoded DNS addresses in devices are annoying, the only way i’ve found to get around that is using destination nat rules (DNAT) which requires more than a consumer router typically. hardcoded phone home IPs would get blocked by your firewall. you’re right that most firewalls are set up by default to implicitly allow outbound traffic. you set up a rule that explicitly denies all outbound traffic from the TV, then only allow port 443 (or whatever port your streaming service uses) on the specific IP/IPs that your service uses. Here’s Netflix’s published IP info for example.
edit also i’m fully aware it’s fucking ridiculous that we as consumers have to go through this much rigamarole. you shouldnt have to be a literal network engineer to do something as simple as have an internet-connected tv that doesnt spy on you.

2·2 months agono it helps to block everything that isnt just netflix or whatever streaming service you use. you combine a DNS adblock along with blocking all the unused ports and it severely limits the communications. you could also add a vpn to add another layer of security. idk about jellyfin but most streaming services i know use https/443 to stream to your tv. so youre only allowing the specific service you want and only on a specific port. buncha great dns blocklists here https://github.com/hagezi/dns-blocklists, and a smart tv specific one for pihole here https://github.com/Perflyst/PiHoleBlocklist/blob/master/SmartTV.txt

2·2 months agoIt’s relatively easy to restrict a smart tv to TLS/HTTPS traffic only using your router and a dns adblocker.
