My servers run on a power station and then solar panels with a battery.

What if there’s a biblical flood and you dont have the means to build an arc? All your servers are destroyed beyond repair?

Don’t live in the US. Servers are encrypted and backed up off-site.

What if theres a war and Luxembourg (you know, the enemy) let’s of an EMP pulse that kills your servers and all the infrastructure (power, internet…). How do you access all those cherished pics on Immich?

It takes A LOT for an EMP to fry electronics. The most important pictures can be printed. Already have a lot of albums. Some of my pictures is stored on discs.

In an apocalypse or an emergency, none of this stuff really matters though. You are better of making sure you have enough food, water and shelter. In almost any event, your servers are just going to sit there, waiting to be turned on again, when hopefully everything is back to “normal”.

That’s the server currently missing from the picture. Right now it’s a mess, because I’m doing a re-setup of everything. But getting my hands on hard drives have been difficult and I actually still need a CPU and motherboard.

I was too lazy to put on clothes and go out to my shack. This picture is a bit old. It’s missing a lot of mess and my PeerTube server.

That entirely depends on the specific models and use case.

Backups of the LXC container has been enough, but I’m thinking about doing a secondary backup of the DB itself.

Everything runs in the same container.

I have restored the container many times. Also, every time there’s an update, I backup the container first and then I can restore it if something breaks.

I have 2 local backups and then 3 remotely at Hetzner.

Host PieFed instead.

With that said, I host Lemmy.wtf, which is a rather small instance.

Proxmox > LXC > Docker.

The container has 6 vcores and 6GB RAM.

Backups are handled by Proxmox.

Do you mean a 64GB SSD or did you really have to upgrade to 64GB RAM to run your Lemmy instance?

Start with experimenting on your own computer. You can install Docker and setup Lemmy fx. Any reason you can’t keep your computer running?

First thing you do is realize that AI ain’t as great as they want you to believe. Physical work is probably the best way to avoid AI completely, but eventually the hype will die down, so if you still want to work in IT, maybe something like a data technician or IT support?

And then never use it :D
