  • I can’t say I believe that chart, every other country went down other than Canada. I get that we put 1 big pipeline into operation for oil and one for gas recently, and several since 1990, however there is still no way I believe that the US dropped by 6%. They’ve been building pipelines like mad.

Even reading the summary, 400,000 Hiroshima bombs every day.

The planet will be fine without mankind, and so will nature.

This can all be fixed if the people the masses stand up and say this isn’t what we want, no more multi billionaires, not huge tax digest for corporations and seriously start building nuclear, SMR’s, battery storage etc.

Right now it ain’t working and we are letting the 1% dictate a shitty future for the 99%.

A serious new system where everyone benefits based on real resources not speculation and BS for FIAT dollars.

  • Well then if they are going to have a problem funding it, they need to start taxing inheritances. I know that as a country we operate a PONZI scheme, but with the way the youth if the country are going to get fucked by the boomers (not every boomer) then the boomers should have taxes increased on what they plan to leave to their kids. Now it’s easier to say than do because there will be a significant amount of boomers who can’t afford to retire let alone leave anything to their kids.

This is what happens when a certain group do not pay their fair share of taxes, and those fucks are corporations.

Trickle down bullshit, the system needs a major change.

BC will probably do the same as every other province, pay big bucks for experts and consultants and we will still have a shit healthcare system with no improvements because there is no reason to improve it as long as the leaches can keep milking the cash from it (BTW, same can be said for homelessness).

  • So sad in a country as wealthy as this, that this can happen.

I hope the lawsuit is successful, and they learn they need to provide the healthcare services to the people. It would not be an easy fix for sure, but I don’t see anyone really trying to change it, just more lies and BS to let American style healthcare into the country.

The crisis in healthcare has been known to be coming right along with the baby boomers increase in age, and it has only gotten worse. There has been no real plans on fixing the system because they don’t want it fixed.

People are going to emerge when it isn’t needed because they have no family docs, and real triage doesn’t seem to happen, tell people to go home if they shouldn’t be there, setup more 24 7 clinics, train and hire people to stay in their community.

  • Ok even if it was plausible for Alberta to separate, nevermind the legal BS with indigenous groups and those who are not for it, why would the oil rich province of Alberta need any fucking money from the US or anyone else. Really, go into servitude and debt for made up out of thin air money when we are sitting on the second largest supply of oil in the world (other than the fact that we throw ridiculous amounts of tax breaks and funding for oil companies to take our resources and make massive profits from it).

Look I am proud to be a Canadian, however I am very disappointed in our politicians and parties. The government has been fully 100% captured by business as people believed that having someone smart enough to run a company must be good to bring that same financial attitude into government.

The problem is that it is now concerned only for business and corporations and the people are seen as just the means to transfer government money (which only comes from taxpayers, and let’s not get into all the tax loopholes that corporations get) to corporations.

I get it, business need to make money, people need to make money, governments need money, but not all services provided by governments are going to be in the black and nor should they be. If governments or politicians really would stop bending over backwards for their own benefit then all of Canada (or most countries for that matter) would be further ahead. But in this world the almighty investor and the corrupt politicians are shitting on the citizens because their greed cannot be satisfied.

We can’t build shit cause the countries are broke, and it makes sense when you look at how the tax laws changed and corporations started paying shit all. Why are corporations granted the almighty right to huge profits on the backs of the people without fair compensation.

I get that this is not a new phenomenon but it needs to change, just like when people got rid of Kings (or at least relegated them to figureheads). Democracy, freedom where has it gone. Imagine, the government cannot spy on you without reason but hey some corporation put in some bullshit legalese into a 400 of contract (to use a calculator app etc) and some corrupt judge says it fine and now they can spy on you and manipulate you and sell everything to one of their 685 trusted partners (who probably have another 509 trusted partners each) and that is perfectly fine, oh and the government can buy that info.

Fuck me, we had the potential to lift everyone up and I mean everyone, but the greed of a few cannot be satisfied. Well if you ask me the few should be very fucking scared about what they are bringing on themselves, when you have no hope or future and nothing left to lose what will happen. This is why they are being so hard on Mangionne, they’re scared and they want to make sure you get the message, you are a serf and they are the kings, step out of line and watch out.

The entire system needs to be changed for the betterment of mankind not just the elite.

Edit to allow my typing to catch up to my thoughts.

  • Well that’s a bunch of bullshit that we need to watch for with everything we’re told. Critical thinking skills are going to be more important than ever.

That being said, there are plenty of companies taking advantage of the TFW program in Canada, most people think that they do this because they can hire cheaper labour, well that isn’t really the case. To me most of the TFW’s in fast food are being taken advantage of, as the franchise owner can own the house they rent, dictate what hours they work (not needing to deal with student of parents who might need flexibility for picking up kids), and the constant threat of losing your job and being sent back to wherever they’re from.

You cannot put the same restrictions on Canadians, so maybe there is an economically distraught area and plenty of people would work at a fast food restaurant, but the franchise owner would rather a TFW because they have way more control.

Now the TFWs themselves are doing nothing wrong by trying to improve their lives and families situation, but to me it is a new form of slavery where your still stuck at the whims of the owner.

The situation is a mess and like our healthcare industry the government isn’t doing much to make it better for Canadians only for corporations.

BTW fuck Tim Hortons, they’re as Canadian as McDonalds, not very!

  • I am always amazed at how many people do not understand this. Phone companies right before they started becoming almost “essential”, power companies, water/sanitation companies, healthcare “you know excluding eyes and teeth because they have nothing to do with healthcare” that they’re pushing to privatize, etc etc. So why does anyone think that privatizing Canada Post will be any different, and sure as shit it will be some stupid Tech company that will just have another means to amass your information to sell.

Now don’t get me wrong, there needs to be a change at Canada Post (and the CBC but that’s another topic), but privatization is not the answer, and neither is the current way it’s going. The person who mentioned how Ireland has adapted their postal service makes a valid point and it should be looked at.

Canadians will not be better served by privatization but some greedy asshole billionaire will, unless it gets bought by the employees.

Yes government organizations are rife with inefficiencies but it would be better to attempt to solve those problems.

I do not get a lot of useful mail from Canada Post, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a valuable service for Canadians. There just needs to be less junk mail what a complete waste of resources, and why the hell do companies have the right to force their trash on me. Bet that gets better with privization /s

  • You mean the later that follows environmental regulations and human rights conditions?

Don’t get me wrong yes heavy oil takes a lot of upgrading to produce but with the shear amount of it it makes sense. All oil and most of the taxes taken from it should be used to wean ourselves off oil but that is many many years away.

And to your comment about the personal attack, um think you threw the first attack to oil and gas workers.

And haven’t been on Reddit much for a bit now and I don’t usually comment, but trying to help Lemmy be active and here is the average redditor who is better than everyone else. Guess your oil is better than ours. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
