It’s important for citizens to understand the relative strengths and weaknesses of the Canadian and US economy before they decide that the country needs a ‘deal’. I’ve brought together a bunch of background info that I haven’t heard much of from the legacy media. I think it suggests Canada is doing a whole lot better than America right now. https://billhulet.substack.com/p/my-hot-take-on-the-current-trade

That is a strategy, just kick the ball forward until Trump loses the midterms, but the closer they get to the midterms, the more desperate Trump will get to avoid an election at all. A loss for him at this point will take everything he has stolen.
The reality is the USA will be in a state of national emergency by October, to result in a full Fascist regime. Trump has seen every politician he endorsed lose.
Yes, I do expect Trump will get more desparate and make more attempts at escalating, but I still think it is the best way forward. Time is our leverage, we can enact what happened with his China spat, without needing to levy ridiculous % of countertariffs. He will either back down, or even the more tariff-friendly Democrats and moderate Republicans will notice how messed up the state of trade policy is and be more inclined to fix it in Congress.
Trump has been declaring fake emergencies since he was sworn in.
Those Trump endorses have been losing a lot more lately, but it is not universal. Michael Alfonso is just one such example I found in a very quick search. I’ve also seen people on Lemmy speculating that some of those would have won regardless of his endorsement, but I can’t say how valid that is.
