Today’s game is Old School RuneScape. I was left with an urge to play today, so I booted it up and decided to focus on a task instead of my usual wandering.

My first idea was to do the quest where you kill the Vampire. Only. Problem. Turns out I’m far from a high enough level to pull it off. The guy is like level 20, and I’m level 6 (4 at the time of attempting it). So obviously I was gonna run into some issues.

I did the first thing I assumed I could do and went to killing things. I found this farm full of Goblins and just started mowing them down until I got low on healthy. Turns out the goblins are Semi comparable fighters. I went until I got to 2/10 health.

I then went on to try and slaughter some cows to gain experience. Because surely the cows won’t fight back. Plot twist, turns out they do and I got my ass kicked by them too after killing 4 of them. I didn’t have food so I’ll have to run into town.

Finally. After that I went to the pond in the main picture. I meant to kill some ducks, but they were just too harmless to kill I felt like so I left them be. I doubt they’d offer much EXP anyways. So I’ll just stick to healing and killing cows for now.

This reads like my childhood internal monologue, thank you for the walk down memory lane.

You only ever get to play OSRS innocently / for the first time once.

If you want to relive it, MadSeasonShow on YouTube has been doing a blind, no help, no wiki playthrough for the last couple years and it’s pretty nostalgic to watch!

Yeah, I very distinctly remember the “just wander and figure the details out later” feeling of adventure from my first time playing. As a noob, I carted around most of the starting gear (basically everything that exists on your toolbelt now) just in case I needed it while I was out and about. Because I didn’t have a good idea of the map yet, (and the game map at the time didn’t give you a “You Are Here” marker) so I didn’t want to find myself lost in the middle of nowhere without a tinderbox or fishing net.

I think the move is to start with chickens, then graduate to cows. That’s how my friend taught me many years ago when I started osrs (coming from RS3)

It is very tedious at first, I usually do cycles of playing and not playing because of the amount of grinding involved
