How is the current system of house ownership working out for the vast majority of people.
Some people have no chance of ever owning anything, some people are underwater on houses that now have bigger mortgages than the house is worth, some people are still making due, and the upper groups of owners own so many properties that the prices will never go down unless the economy crashes and everyone loses.
Getting more people in coops and other non market housing is a good idea and I don’t see any actual ideas from the other parties that don’t just enrich those who already have too much.
We’re facing high housing prices, high grocery prices, high gas prices, prospects of job losses and economic stagnation due to tariffs, threats of sovereignty from the US, dilapidated military, brain drain, …
And Avi’s answer to all of this is to… have the government build cheap housing??
You tackle these things by attracting investment, stimulating the economy, breaking up oligopolies, preventing hogging of real estate.
Granted, Carney isn’t doing enough on those last two points but Avi’s plan is as useless as PP’s “axe the tax” crap.
If you’re saying he hasn’t talked about grocery prices, then I definitely know you’re just sea lioning because he’s talked about everything you mentioned.
-Use Canadian lumber and other Canadian products to build them.
-stimulate the economy with all of these points.
-employ Canadians to build the houses.
-employ Canadians to design them.
-maybe make these housing projects into housing coops so prices can be kept down and multi class groups can live together rather than class separation.

No, I’m saying he never talked about how he plans to solve these problems. He talks plenty about the problems, he just has no real solutions.
So building cheap houses would:
-Use Canadian lumber and other Canadian products to build them.
-stimulate the economy with all of these points.
-employ Canadians to build the houses.
-employ Canadians to design them.
-maybe make these housing projects into housing coops so prices can be kept down and multi class groups can live together rather than class separation.
