I worry nobody realizes he doesn’t mean they don’t need “Canada”, the physical land.
He means they don’t need “Canada”, the country/government/people currently claiming hold to that land.
They do need the people to do the labour to get the stuff from the land. That’s traditionally been part of the neocolonial formula after WWII. 😄 So we’ll stay, but work for a pittance with no welfare state or universal healthcare. We’ll pay taxes but get no vote.
" Controlled or administered by the United States but whose residents don’t have voting representation in federal elections, the clearest examples are U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands. Residents of these territories generally cannot vote for president in the general election while living in the territory, and they have non-voting delegates (or a resident commissioner in Puerto Rico) in the U.S. House rather than voting members." This is why Carney turned down the U.S agreement. THIS is why Carney is standing up to the Cheetoh.
Let’s redirect those key minerals to the European Union.
If they did he’d cave quickly. Look how quickly he changed his mind after China started adjusting their critical mineral exports.
The only reason he gets away with any of the dumb shit he pulls is because people let him. He always caves at the slightest hint of pushback (unless we’re talking.about little girls, because he’s a sick demented fuck).
I believe he taco’d also because Walmart, and other huge conglomerates told him to knock it off. Almost all their products come from China.
Tim Apple (Tim Cook) gave him that Golden apple plaque to change that stuff.
Read an analysis about that: it’ll take years. It’s not just a case of load on boat -> profit, a lot of the infrastructure takes those minerals south to the US. You’d have to build new loading, rail, unloading and port infrastructure.
This may very well be worth the cost and even starting that process is a strong signal, but it’s not as simple as flipping a switch.
Like planting a tree. The best time to build infrastructure towards Europe was 20 years ago, the next best time is today.
You’d have to build new loading, rail, unloading and port infrastructure.
The sooner we fully utilise our ports the better.
The US is the largest market then China. So how is Europe going to replace them?
You try that and expect a blockade. Monroe doctrine, look it up and worry…
The American public wouldn’t support that.
How effectively has the public lack of support stopped interventions in recent memory?
Of course I seriously hope this changes but I think that only happens thru enough DSA-aligned people in power to force that change. An uphill battle, but there’s hope.
The American public had to fight hard to end the draft to Vietnam.
The American public supports the military above all else. You mess with the military and their effective mission readiness, the people of USA will be United.
This means if you do anything to affect the US military then expect the public to turn on you
American here who has lived in Canada by choice for many years now and am now a dual citizen. I’m from a military family and my family doesn’t even support Trump or Chief Makeup Queen that Trump appointed to head the military. Your assumption regarding public support might be applicable in Alabama or some shithole state but most Americans neither approve of Trump nor the actions that Trump has forced the military into taking. Supporting soldiers and vets is a lot different than supporting the stupid missions the government forces them to carry out.
The vast majority of Americans including many Republicans are sick of the US meddling in other countries’ affairs. The US as the hegemon Monroe envisioned only exists in history books and MAGAt idiot minds.
Also your “sources” are a) outdated and b) biased to say the least lol. Cope harder MAGA troll. Bye now.
Dude I’m not a MAGA troll I’m a realist. The data is there and Americans support their military full stop. Americans are the most patriotic people in the world and the point is if somebody messes with our military (like the comment that I responded to said they will cut us off) then the public will support what is best for our military.
The American people are strong because we have the greatest military in the world. We don’t commit war crimes and follow everything by the book and that’s the only reason Iran is winning!
The survey was conducted in 2025, it’s not outdated! The only on biased is you. You can’t be a dual citizen, who do you pledge allegiance to? You need to pick one side, you’re either with America or not!
After everything else he’s done to destroy their military he probably considers it a feature.
Wouldn’t the US proposed trade deal have allowed the US to veto stuff like this?
Yup, the entitled mediocre USA doesn’t deserve anyone’s business.
We do, I’ll buy food from Canada and other Canadian products regardless.
