Canadian lawmaker Sean Casey said on 25 September he was removed as parliamentary secretary to the veterans affairs minister after backing legislation to close loopholes that let Canadian-made military equipment be sold abroad and later reach Israel.
“The bill was targeted at closing the loopholes that allowed for Canadian military equipment to be sold to another country but end up in Israel, so end up being used to kill Palestinians,” Casey, a member of the ruling Liberal Party, said during an interview with CBC News.
He also revealed that, in March, his party warned him that he would be dismissed from the post if he supported the bill introduced by New Democratic Party (NDP) lawmaker Jenny Kwan.
“I kept my word to my constituents, and I voted in favor of the legislation and didn’t hear anything from anyone until yesterday,” he said. “It took so darn long; I was kind of wondering if they forgot about me.”
I’m pretty sure this is not how our democracy is supposed to work.

Liberals teaching all their MPs a lesson that it’s party before constituents or you’re in trouble.
