Society works because human evolution happens at the rate of learning and communicating new behaviors – exponentially faster and more effective than genetic evolution. The human genome has changed exceptionally little for hundreds of thousands of years, and so called “race” is the fantasy nonsense that its somehow possible to tell the contents of a person’s mind just by the light bouncing of their skin.
I don’t think its enough to call it stupid, we gotta start attacking the root assumptions that drive the ideology.
You start with education. It’s not enough to just negate something (“racism bad”) you gotta replace it with a different idea. Otherwise it just sprouts back up. You would not believe the number of well meaning teenagers who’ve told me eugenics is actually a good idea if we could just do selective breeding programmes without the racism.
I do agree it starts with education, but I think we need to tackle more of a fundamental element of teaching people how to be a reasonable human that isn’t so easily jerked around by their base emotions. Otherwise stupid ideas will still reach and resonate with stupid people and the danger of creating a moron is still high.

It’s about their capacity to understand and behave reasonably. We got a long way to go.
