I’d rather be a lot more Chinese.
Gimme a BYD or Xiaomi vehicle please, don’t get me wrong, I love my Mustang Mach-E but those cars have some really cool features.
If you drive an SUV I don’t respect you.
I’d rather be a lot more European, when I moved home after living in England for 10 years it was extremely difficult to find a car small enough for my needs
Everything the NA auto sector puts out is a hulking behemoth. SUVs, pickup trucks. “Small” today would be some sort of crossover.
I’m an empty nester at this point, and have no need or desire for anything like that. And giant EVs are just way beyond my budget. At least I have my e-bike.
We could also work towards doing without them entirely.
All other thoughts aside, it honestly baffles me that people look at the cost of a vehicle and decide that it’s a smart financial decision in today’s economy, especially with these gas prices.
In larger urban centers, maybe.
Would be nice, but that’s a pipe dream for when Greens fight NDP for power and still probably end working together, so not this timeline.
I walk wherever I can, hell if I’m bored enough I’ll walk for 2-3 hours to a shop and take a bus back, but the current state of transport and footpaths seriously limits my options and safety. That being said, there are times where I just wanna drive, enjoy music without something uncomfortable stuck in my ear or pressing on my ears, and go wherever I want. And I sure as fuck don’t think spending anything over 20k is worth that freedom unless I expect it to last 20 years minimum.
I’d rather drive a decent size hatchback (not “hot hatch”) or an estate/combo/touring/stationwagon/wtfyouwannacallit over any SUV.
An A5 (hatchback/sportback) and Laguna hatchback were the two most convenient cars I’ve driven before coming to Canada and I couldn’t find a reasonably priced alternative, also they happened to be the most fuel efficient at the time despite their engines sizes, thanks to the type of fuel (it wouldn’t be the case now, so you know exactly what I’m talking about).Kia recently came out with a K4 Hatchback, and it’s really good.
And I’m disappointed that they didn’t put an electric motor and battery in it. I absolutely agree with you, it looks great and the damn EV4 looks like shit in comparison (not from all angles but yea…)
Did you know the EV4 is a sedan? Like what were they trying to achieve here? Minimal rear visibility??? Jeez.
But yes, I am also disappointed they didn’t make a PHEV version of the K4 Hatchback, it would work perfectly for my needs. I did get the Turbo version in top spec though, which is a nice consolation prize.

The NA EV4 is a sedan, the European one is a hatchback if I’m not mistaken? Still that K4 looks sooo much better
Oh wow you’re right, yeah the European K4 makes so much more sense, but it still looks like a minivan someone put in the dryer and it shrunk unevenly
Hatchback / stationwagon is so Canadian 💯
I am excited for the new BMW i3 Touring coming out. Perfection!!
