The UCP’s handlers desperately wanted to lower the cost of labor so they pressured the government to reduce the barriers for foreign workers.
Now the UCP is shocked that all these people that they promised safety and a thriving job market need access to public services like healthcare and education.
I mean importing their entire extended family under Trudeau kind of defeated the whole point of pillaging other nation’s invested infrastructure money by immigrating their young workers. India fronts the money and infrastructure to raise and educate someone from 0-25, and then Canada imports that person and reaps the tax benefits of them while they work here without requiring canada to spend more money on schools, police, or hospitals.
Except thats only a net benefit if they don’t then immigrate their parents, their spouse’s parents, and their uncles family or whatever. Now you’ve created a net drain on Canada and made a bunch of people unhappy.
Also I see immigration as a kind of outsourced colonialism. We skim the best and brightest off the top of developing nations to save ourselves money, suppress domestic wages because of our terrible TFW program, and hopefully make tax revenue out of it. The immigrant’s nation is just overall worse off and whatever remittances families get doesn’t make up for their best workers being overseas and eventually bringing their families over.
Classic.
That said, it might not have been the same people doing the welcoming and the restricting.
oh, it absolutely was.

I’ve thought that the harvesting of doctors from other countries is quite near to being an act of war.
