I don’t get why the U.S. would own this little end of land that is connected to Canada and completely cut off from the U.S. It should just be part of Canada to make it easier for everyone. One less border crossing they need to man

Usually, this happens because someone drew a line on a map and called that the border without thinking about the practicalities.

I’m an American and a Canadian. I wish to never have any involvement with the murder of anyone. But since a 1/3 of my country can’t even be troubled to vote… And a bit more than a third are so partisan and stupid, there is no bottom to the depths of what they would do… It seems I need to pick my poison. I’m going to be a murderer either way

I’m a Canadian looking south, and for the most part an NDP supporter. If I were in the US, I don’t know if I could hold my nose and vote Democrat given the options they present. In a 2 party system, it’s more than likely I would spoil my ballot like I would if it were a choice solely between the Conservatives and the Liberals.

The Democrats have to give an option that isn’t just a slightly friendlier corporatism

        • Not voting is not resistance, it’s surrender, and in the US, voting for anyone other than Doofus or Baelcriggh the Unyielding is unfortunately the same as not voting. The primaries are the time to be picky.

Spoiling your ballot is a pretty meaningless protest—if you vote for no one then you don’t get no one, you get whoever (the majority of) everyone else voted for; i.e., you’d be effectively joining the 1/3 who can’t be troubled to vote.

I also am disgusted with the Democrats. But I vote in every election always, and I pay attention to all the local races. I always vote in the primaries. I have had to switch back and forth between parties to do that. That’s one of the problems right there. That Bernie Sanders even has to run as a Democrat, or Ron Paul has to run as a republican is an illustration of what’s wrong with our system. It would be hugely changed if we got ranked choice voting on a national level. I have voted for maybe 8 republicans since 1992, and none of them were presidential or senate candidates. There have been some pretty good good repug candidates in primaries. John Kasich comes to mind. But, Hillary was perfectly accurate when she called the Trump coalition a basket of deplorables. We’re at a stage now where rampant Nazi-ism in the Repug party isn’t even newsworthy. Everyone knows it.

I don’t see why LPC feds should care? I mean, beyond basic human decency. This is US policies and actions applied to US PRs. It had nothing to do with Canada or Canadian laws. Why don’t you leave the blame where it rightly lies, with the US and its unconstitutional gulag?

You don’t “see why” our elected federal government should care while a Canadian citizen dies trying to evade a foreign governments interment camp dragnet?

Do you know how many articles we were bombarded with for years about the “2 Michaels?”

If she was in China or Iran the media and the government would be setting up entire circus parades.

I swear the LPC ball polishing in this group is at the level of parody.

She was a US PR who had been willingly living in the US for 14 years. Her Canadian citizenship is only an incidental fact that has no relation to the story; she could have been from anywhere. This was not a political move against Canada the way Spavor and Kovrig were. It was very unfortunate, and we should be sad about her death, and sad about the state of the US, but this is not the doing of any party, government, policy, or law in Canada. This was done solely by the US. They created this situation, they pushed her to her death. If you can’t see that, you’re either incredibly disingenuous or stupid.
