Today’s game is Super Mario Galaxy. This is the attempt. I’m going to beat it this time… probably. I said the same things every other time. But I have the thing I’m playing it on all to myself in the evenings, so literally, I have no excuse.
Speaking of the evenings, I was sat on the couch alone playing it. And it was a nostalgic experience. I usually play in my bedroom where my desktop is. So just… popping the cartridge in and sitting my happy ass down on the couch to play late into the evening felt nostalgic. Amazing even. It was like when I was younger and staying up late. Except now I’m an adult… in college… honeyhive galaxy at 10 PM feels so good though.
I don’t know if the lower resolution of the Wii covered it, but there is some mild banding on lights and pictures I’ve noticed. Not that it’s too big of a problem, just it can be distracting sometimes.
I rediscovered the game had a first person mode too and zoomed in a little bit to dork around with it. Tried looking at the game from angles I never have before and it was interesting. It’s interesting to think this sight was always here but i didn’t see it ever because I didn’t look at this angle.
I ended up stopping at Honeyhive after skinning and wearing a bee and playing Dr. for a giant ass bee with a dandruff problem. Honestly not a bad place to stop. I need to start making more progress though.
The creativity in that game is insane. It’s the game that made me realize how incredibly talented the people at Nintendo are, and what a game could be. One of my favorites.
I’d argue it’s up there as a contender for one of the best Nintendo Games. They have a large catalog to pick from though. I’d even argue most of the 3D Mario’s are a solid choice
popping the cartridge in
Wait, what ?
I’m playing the 3D all stars version. Younger me was a bit Naive and bought it when it released
Oh, I see
oh my god i was literally playing that today :o
It’s a small world sometimes lol. It’s fun hearing people play the same things i have.
Galaxy is so great. Good flow, good looking, excellent music with a mix of epic and ambient… And a new character that got more personality from a short story and a couple dialogues than any character from the series ever had.
Too bad they never really knew what to do with her after that. Except Ubisoft with Mario + Rabbids 2, but… Meh.
It sucks how little they’ve used her. It feels like theres more they could have done outside of galaxy, even not in a starring role
Yeah, completely. Pauline’s got her time in the limelight right now, between Odyssey and DK Bananza, but Rosalina was just relegated to “bonus Peach clone that can do a swirl attack” in 3D World, and that’s basically it.
My controversial Mario takes is that i don’t really care for Pauline. I don’t hate her, but i also can’t find it in me to get excited about her either. But yeah, Rosalina really has been a extra peach clone for the most part which is a shame
Good point about the music, it really was quite memorable!
I replayed Galaxy sometime around 2020 and had a lot of fun doing so. I remember liking this one quite a lot. It was also fun to let my kid who was around 5 at the time hold a remote to help collect stars.
I’m… reasonably sure I played Galaxy 2 as well but my memory of that iteration is almost completely blank.
Galaxy 2 always blinks in my memory because i’ll always blend it and 1 together. It’s very much Galaxy 1’s sequel
I prefer the first one to be honest.
2 botches things that worked very well before. Especially the camera that did a good job of always being in the right place in 1, but in 2 you suddenly have crazy angles and blind spots that play against you. This can’t even be explained by more complex level design, so who knows what happened.
Also they got rid of the hub for a small, disturbing looking ship and a very generic map, and they killed any trace of story. Those were two things that really set Galaxy 1 apart IMO.
On the new side of things, there were Yoshi, with different powers, and more challenges (but they kind of feel repetitive, because you end up needing to do the same things with just an additional timer or enemy etc…). And the last stars were quite a bit harder than anything in Galaxy.
That sounds about right. I feel like it played more like an expansion than an outright new game. I do remember banging my head against some of those tougher levels now.
The was the last console game that I’ve played (a few party games notwithstanding)
If i had to pick a last console game this would certainly be high up on my list. It’s a good game
I had Galaxy 1 and 2, the music is to die for. Both soundtracks are amazing. Beat them both!
I keep a playlist of video game music to listen too while i work, and it’s soundtrack is on there for a decent chunk of the playlist. It’s so good.
Yeah, I downloaded all those OSTs from YouTube to keep on disk and play via Spotify.
Also they’re available in Nintendo’s music app for on-the-go listening. 😁
I ripped all of them i could and put them on a Jellyfin server for listening. It really is nice, i also keep them burnt to CDs though just as back up because for some reason where i live still doesn’t have constant coverage
I hope they release it again sometime.
I didn’t buy it during limited release, cause I didn’t want to support that, so will check if they make a proper release some day.
It pisses me off now that they didn’t make it a permanent release. Like, physical copies, i can maybe sort of understand. But the digital copies? I refuse to believe the server space it costed was that much extra. It sucks too because i’d argue in terms of accessibility, 3D all stars is the best way to play those games.
Yeah, I love Switch, and the games Nintendo makes, but as a business, they are a pretty weird company.
