I’m suggesting to add French as a co-official language to Manitoba like New Brunswick and I support your idea for Ontario as there are French areas in the east. This would make learning the language easier for students.

No where in this link does it say that French is an official language of Manitoba. It’s not. Manitoba often allows francophones to access government services in French but that is not the same as it being an official language

              https://parliamentum.org/2025/10/06/premier-wab-kinew-wants-to-make-manitoba-the-second-officially-bilingual-province/

It wasn’t official, as per the link they posted the languages are the official languages of Canada and thus services are offered in both.

When Manitoba joined Canada it was bilingual but Ontario resettled it with Irish people to erase the French (and indigenous) with the language eventually being dropped from it’s elevated status.

Hence why it’s not official but sort of is.

              Wikipedia is wrong :)

Remember in school when they told you to not use Wikipedia as a source? This is why.

The site I linked is an official Government of Manitoba website.

The article about the Premiere and that site both say they are official languages not to mention the Manitoba act. So if Wikipedia is wrong there is a reason because if it is not it is very confusing or do you have a very specific definition of official language.

Sometimes Wikipedia isn’t updated fast enough, yes we shouldn’t rely on it too much :D

You weren’t wrong. The link provided does not say that French is an official language of Manitoba, just that it can be accessed for government services etc. The other commentator appears to be confused

It literally says its an offical language in the legislative and Judaical branches. And then the post about the premeier literally says this

As a practical matter, Manitoba is already an officially bilingual province under the Constitution of Canada though not in quite the same way that New Brunswick is.

And then everyone saying be like New Brunswick did they read anything there is also this

Manitoba would therefore not need to pursue enactments mirroring these five sub-sections of the Constitution Act, 1982 with respect to New Brunswick because section 23 of the Manitoba Act – equally as part of the Constitution of Canada as sections 16 to 20 of the Charter are – already guarantees these same linguistic rights in Manitoba

Now did Manitoba not follow the Manitoba act and Ottowa let them sure but doesn’t mean they are not offically bilingual.
