      I was an Apple fan girl before Trump and the 51st state BS and Tim Apple giving him the golden Apple plack but I do not think you could pay me to go back to Closed source OS again. I have a subscription to Claude but only because I do not have the money to create a Ollama set up to help me with my homelabbing stuff.

      My OS of choice now is Debian, because I started learning Linux on Raspberry pis. My collection of systems running open source things has grown. I planned on a 3 or 4 month homelabbing journey but it has taken many different turns and does so much more now than what I thought I would ever do. I am considering getting the HA smart thingies so I do not need to rely on my homepod mini’s not that anyone is making money or tracking me with them (thank you firewall, pihole, and whatever else I have running on my 10.66.6.0 vLAN to make all the IoT things on my LAN safe).

          Talking this through got me thinking the iPad i am using was still ringing when people called me so I should really figure out what was up with that. I spent more time than I care to admit to figure out I needed to sign out than check if it was on the right vLAN (it wasn’t but it is now). Then I spent time trying to figure out why I was having trouble giving it a static IP, I was just reading openWRT wrong. Then I set the firewall rules up so that it cannot talk to the WAN and can only reach my HAOS on a pi 4. Thank you for giving me the push I needed to fix it.

    Use Invidious opposed to YouTube directly, your traffic is proxied and masked with other people who use the same Invidious instance as you.

    Not perfect as YouTube has a tendency to add more and more restrictions on their APi, but if you can find yourself an instance that keeps itself up to date then should experience minimal issues.

    Can also import your YouTube subscriptions.

      I am saddly not in a place where invidious makes sense for me yet. I use Unwatched on my ipad and iphone, when it comes time to update my phone I will be changing the operating system when I have the money I will be replacing my ipad I will be finding something with preferably Debian with touch but I would be fine with ubuntu touch!

      I have started to use Waterfox and uBlock on a pi5 on my TV to block youtube ads, I am hopefully getting a hand me down mac mini that I will install Debian on in a few weeks, as it is x86 I will be able to do more like sponser block. I have tried invidious before, but it did not work for me maybe I will try it again soon.
