As everyone else here has said, this is a perfect example of FAFO. Everyone knows (except Maple MAGA types who live in their own false information bubble) that Russia is grabbing every adult male inside their borders that they can, to be sent to their deaths in Ukraine. To move to Russia shows a degree of wilful stupidity and/or ideological blindness that is beyond repair. It’s basically like a person deliberately crossing and re-crossing a very busy highway because they think they are invulnerable.

No sympathy whatsoever for the idiot, but some sympathy for the children whom I assume had no choice.

Why would they think they’d be the exception, even if it were to be peacetime? When I had to live in the US as a permanent resident, that did not exempt me from their draft. It was required to sign up for the selective service for me to go to college actually. Thought it was predatory and I’d prefer not signing up, but seems fair enough to me. If you plan on living somewhere permanently, you will be asked to assist in defending it if needed. Not rocket science.

The opportunity to bypass or avoid drafts or mandatory service with minimal or no consequences is a modern luxury in most western countries.

Russian Presidential Decree No. 702, the ”traditional” values attached to Russia’s humanitarian emigration visa — often called the “shared values” or “anti-woke” visa — focus on a rejection of “destructive neoliberal” and Western ideological policies, including “LGBTQ rights to mixed-gender bathrooms.”

Of all the actual destructive neo liberal policies, lgtbq rights shouldn’t even be on the radar.

Christian nationalism and patriarchal dominionism is deceiving young men across the planet.

I remember when Russia first did this visa program and EVERYONE said ‘oh, they’re going to enlist these people into their military as fast as they can’ because it was obvious they were going to do that. to everyone.

Probably should have asked more questions about the Meat Grinder job before moving.

Russia has this habit of expanding and contracting every so often, after these ‘traditional values’ men are put through the meat grinder I am curious as to what these visa’s will be good for when the women and children are left?

They might start drafting the women, too, when they get desperate enough. I mean, they didn’t quite get to that point during WWII, but that the Soviets placed women in combat roles during that period at all says something.

So in the unlikely event that this . . . person’s . . . wife is reading this: Lady, get the hell out of there before they start drafting women and preteen boys, of which I expect your household contains at least one.

While I love the FAFO, I have to wonder how Russia is this bad at PR. There’s no way getting a few out of shape idiots into their army is worth the bad press among their far right followers.

This message doesn’t reach them. They read curated media. My maple maga dad is completely oblivious or even is trained to actively ignore such signals.

these are often the anti-intellectuals that fail to read, let alone read allegories like Animal Farm (1944)
