Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Tuesday announced a radar purchase from Australia and an expansion of military operations in the Arctic while visiting Canada’s far north in an effort to assert sovereignty over the increasingly contested region.

The prime minister’s office said the Canadian $6 billion ($4.2 billion) Over-the-Horizon Radar system will provide early warning radar coverage from the Canada-United States border into the Arctic.

Carney announced the purchase at a military base in the capital of the Inuit-governed territory of Nunavut on his last stop after visiting Paris and London for meetings with leaders there.

The Australian radar system will consist of a series of pillars almost a mile (1.6 kilometers) in length. Officials said that the system would have a smaller footprint than what the similar American system would take up.

Man, he’s really hitting the ground running, and every step is fire. A couple weeks ago I was begging for Canada’s leadership to shut down U.S. negotiations until Dumpster acknowledged our sovereignty and repudiated his threats against it. And Trudeau was handling things pretty well, but no way he’d go that far.

Carney did it in on day 2. ✊

I think we might have found the only leader in the Western world that can outpace the orange clown.

Addendum: I first broached that “demand acknowledgement” move over a month ago.

Macron of France has really been doing a good job lately as well with pushing for Europe to become a new world superpower - both economically and militarily.

Hoping this is the first step of Australia trying to get out of AUKUS as well. Ask France if they still want to build the original subs they ordered.

Wtf are you talking about, this sucks. imagine if he put those billions into housing or food for those in need. Would do a lot better than more fucking bullshit to exploit/covet the resources of this land for some capitalists to benefit from.

4.2 Billion could make a lot of homes and feed a lot of people.

If you don’t see the importance of defending our sovereignty right now, then I’m not sure what world you’re living in.

          Radar ain’t gonna do shit.

Also, the places there, putting the radar, no one lives there. It’s just resources.

This goes to show how many Canadians don’t know the Russians have been testing our northern borders for decades. Part of Trump’s plan in threatening our country and laying down tariffs is to help destabilize us for the Russians. Our joint efforts have protected the north out of mutual concern, but since America can no longer be trusted - we need to build our own defences, fast.
