Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent promoted the idea of the province of Alberta voting to exit Canada as his boss lusts for U.S. expansion.

The top Trump officials leaned into “rumors” during an interview on the right-wing streaming channel Real America’s Voice.

“Alberta’s a natural partner for the U.S. They have great resources. The Albertans are very independent people,” Bessent said. “Rumor is they may have a referendum on whether they want to stay in Canada or not.”

Shit. You’d need to be an absolute fucking moron to want to be part of that dumpster fire.

If Albertans want to leave then pack your bags. The land is staying part of Canada. You can leave.

It really feels like they’re trying to pull a Crimea. They’ve already been amplifying (if not outright fabricating) the voices of the very few sincere separationists to make it look like it’s a majority position. Now they’re setting up a referendum, which will likely be accused of being rigged if it fails or used as pretext if it passes, because it’s obviously not legally binding.

Oddly like Russian playbook, wait is that Ukraine crossed out and Canada penciled in? Bunch of hosers, get off the ice and play somewhere else.

Not being American is one of the deepest, most consistently held parts of Canadian identity. It’s why we are so insistent on spelling colour correctly.

    What a dumbass.

Despite Bessent’s claim that people want “what the U.S. has got,” Greenlanders insisted they did not want to join the U.S.

Americans are deluded about their country being the envy of the world. No one is looking at the USA and thinking “I want that” except for the most desperate and the most gullible and propagandized. Everyone else is quite happy to avoid what the USA has, because they find it disgusting.

And that includes most of us Canadians. Apart from the stupidest and the traitors and grifters (jointly known as Conservatives) we absolutely do not want to become part of your shitty and declining country. I have many American friends and mostly they ask me how they can escape to Canada.

There is a very vocal minority that are 100% in agreement with that statement up here in Canada. The vast majority Canada (myself included), however, disagree in the strongest possible terms.

It’s much more than just an ignorant statement. The US is actively supporting the secessionist movement in Canada. The State Department has met with the leaders if the Alberta secessionist movement in Washington to support them and told them they would immediately recognize Alberta as a country when the time comes. No doubt there is funding flowing to the secessionist movement from the US. Bessent is also not just some innocent guy pushing numbers around for the economy. He admitted to engineering the currency crash in Iran as part of their regime change plan and called it “economic statecraft.”

The US is working to undermine Canadian sovereignty. This is the same bullshit the CIA does around the world, and they’ve been working on it for a while in Alberta.

Wait til he finds out Oregon, Washington, California, and New England will all vote to exit the US and join Canada.

My alternate most schadenfreude-y timeline involves Alberta managing to Wexit somehow, and consequently Washington and Oregon joining Canada.

Alberta separatists never shut up about running a pipeline through Washington to the west coast.

If the west coast of the US went to Canada after Alberta separated, that would be the ultimate poetic justice. Alberta would be back negotiating a pipeline again, through Washington, but again with Canada, and now as a foreign state with all the animosity of a recent separation.

This would be: “How to shoot yourselves in the dick on an international stage, in one easy step”.

California would just be its own country again. They don’t want to be associated with Oregon, let alone be responsible for it.

Doesn’t exactly have his finger on the pulse of Canada…or even Alberta.

There is a minority of conservative Canadians - generally the gun nuts, and now the anti-vax right - who bloviate about separating every time there’s a Liberal Party Prime Minister…it’s been happening since the 70s. They’re stupid…they rotted their brains watching American political entertainment. The same Maple MAGA morons forget all about separation and suddenly get all patriotic the second there’s a Conservative Prime Minister.

They’re truly idiots, just like MAGA. They’re currently losing their minds over Mark Carney…a PM who’s governing to the right of anything their last candidate promised. He should be their wet dream…but they don’t care about outcomes: They treat politics like the WWE…they don’t give a shit or know anything about policy and it’s effects. To them politics are as nuanced as a match between Hulk Hogan vs The Iron Sheik.

Why would I want to live in a situation where 1/3 of the country hates the other 1/3 of the country, they don’t believe in science, medicine and vaccines, they elect a man baby rapist to lead the country, and mass shootings are a thing because they need just to protect themselves from some future boogieman?

    Fuck that noise.
